So you don't think gaming should be a family experience and instead blame the parents for others talking smack? Do you believe the amount of abuse over a game is justified and to be expected?

Parents are to blame if their kids hear stuff being said in an online game that they do not want them to hear, they let them on in the first place.

In an ideal world everyone wouldn't use that language and kids would be able to play online with no bother, but at the end of the day we don't live in an ideal world.

Well thankfully MS thought of this and gave very good parental controls for Live, I guess with them being American it might help them as they are so paranoid about a lawsuit for little Dwayne being abused they cover there back with these controls, I believe Japanese gamers are a lot more friendly and laidback so perhaps Sony never really thought about the trash talking West too much :)

most of the kids have probably heard far worse in the playground, my 13yr old finds in amusing when someone loses his rag on xbox Live or PSN

Its not just the trash talking though, realisticly parents dont know who their kids are talking to online, be it MSN, Online Gaming, Second Life, etc. - You have to be so careful these days, it is so easy for your children to be spoken to by some sicko. And yes the childs parents are to blame if this happens for letting them on in the first place, as sad as it is, thats the truth.

Which is why parental controls can prevent all that on Live :) Can even stop little Dwayne playing a 15 rated game for instance if he is not old enough :) I agree with what you are saying but that is not really the issue :)

I never did play around with the parental options on the 360 when I had mine as the kids didn't go near it (nasty eh? :D)

But it is something I'd personally like to see implemented more on consoles and kept updated.

The PS3 does have some kind of parental controls for web browsing and watching dvd/blu-ray, not sure about games, but again, haven't had the need to play around with those either.

My only complaint is when you set a zone to family on XBL you should ONLY be matched against other family zone players. My nephew is 8 and a decent well bought up level headed kid. He's been subject to verbal abuse from adults and teenagers that shouldn't be tolerated.

When you file a complaint they should monitor the abuser, but they dont. There was an article in one of the mags where they purposely got banned to see how long they got removed and it was only a matter of days.

Its hard to moderate I understand that but nothing is done on live at all to monitor repeated knobs.

Then in one simple flash.... Nintendo's stupid friend code ******** was justified.

Having said that, FC would be fine if they would have ONE DAMN CENTRALISED LIST!!!

lol, what you mean like you in PS3 threads, lol

Just thought that seeing that article was actually brought up by Major Nelson and was far worse than what ITV covered on a different format

My points are valid and on topic though, plus I don't bad mouth Sony all the time, I give them a lot of credit when it's due, but people will just ignore it. This was a thread entirely about the PSN and a complaint and you go and mention some Xbox Live user?

You just seem to be blowing hot and cold lately. You were pro Xbox360, then Pro PS3, then Anti-Ps3 and not Pro PS3 again. It's hard to keep up.

Had the topic been on Xbox Live as well then I would agree with you, there was a thread on here where a guy posted a link to some user with the motto "I am the muslim masher" before, which is a shame.

How old are the people who go into pubs?

This is about kids who shouldn't be subjected to online abuse, Which is so rampent online. When I have kids, I can safely say I'll analyze where they are going online, and make sure they only game with certain people. Randoms for instance, I'd rather not have my kids gaming with.

I was talking in regards to MMM complaining of an Xbox Live user on a service which is paid for and allowable for parental control.

I completely agree. You hear some of the stuff kids come out with and it's actually shocking. I'm only 23 and I'm stunned at some of the language coming from young kids these days.

Not sure how many PS3 owners actually know about the parental controls but there is separate controls available for both BD/DVD films and games. The game control is based on the parental control level which is linked to the PEGI age groups, this is found in most games manual where 9 is 18+ games and 2 is 3+ games. There is also an option to turn this off so there is no parental control, the web browser can also be passworded so they cant go on the net. Anyone under 18 cannot have a full master account and have to be linked to a master to go online or to go onto the PSN store, not sure what other restrictions apply though.

There is a facility for grief reporting, but its web based and not particularly streamlined.

Good find msmalls, I knew there was a parental control on the system but as I said i've never played around with it, wasn't aware of the grief reporting though, could come in handy :)

Nice to know there is something there. But this goes as an example of why I think the XMB has room for improvement, because whilst it does offer stuff, it's not necessarily the best layout for so many sub-options as such, it's in a lot of cases, too complicated for its own good.

Not too hard if you read the manual i guess.:D

I only really had a look at them this weekend too, to test out that family timer thing they added, seems to work but can't see it being much use to be honest, whatever happened to just taking the plug out and telling the kids no more games LOL

Exactly, its down to the parents to keep an eye on their kids not Microsoft or anyone else.
