ITV Player - Terrible?

Trying to watch the Czech v Croatia game on iPlayer is a ****ing nightmare. Low quality stream (512x288) and constant stopping and starting every 30s or so with the buffering circle. This despite having more than a enough internet to run it.

Are you watching iPlayer on the BBC One stream or via the BBC Football site (here http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/live/football/36335617)?

EDIT: Just seen it's via BBC one, but you'll never get 720p via that.

Shouldn't the iPlayer stream be the same no matter which part of the BBC website you access it from?

IIRC the iplayer streams vary depending on the device you're using if you access via the main iplayer pages, and I suspect some parts of the BBC site may default to different ones to simplify the page.

But usually the iplayer quality tends to be about the best streaming I've seen on my connection, certainly far better than any of the other UK broadcasters.

Well on a PC I've found iPlayer streams are max 960x540 but downloads and live sport via BBC Sport are from a different server and stream at 720p (adaptive as well).

On my PC the stream from anywhere on the BBC site is shocking (as evidenced by the screenshot above) but on my android phone via the iPlayer app. it's a far better picture (that's over wifi on the same internet connection). I don't want to watch it via my phone though, I want to watch it on my 2nd monitor.

Even via the BBC Sport link I provided? What ISP are you with?

Our county-wide (Northumberland County Council) internet died trying to watch the England Wales game yesterday. It wouldn't even load the BBC Sport website, nevermind the video stream - we had to stick with a juddery digital signal via a USB tuner instead.

Yeah, anywhere on the BBC site gives the same poor PQ on iPlayer. I'm on Plusnet (ADSL2+, fibre isn't available here) and currently connected at just under 13Mb.

Hmm, the stream has stopped (as Spain vs Turkey is on ITV) so I couldn't check the stream rate but 13Mb should be more than enough for it. Could be the BBC's CDN or lack of them causing lower streaming quality.
