ITV to charge for ITV Player

Season 10 is on 4od....

I struggle to believe that anyone would EVER pay for ITV player. It's just absolutely terrible

Really? I don't watch TV to really know when programmes are on.

Well I watched it weekly a few hours after its airing in the USA, kind of annoys me that America gets TV shows before us except of our BBC programmes. Didn't they get Torchwood earlier before us as well?

ITV is to launch its much-awaited online micropayments system in January, as the group announced a near doubling of first-half profits and revenues of more than £1bn.

The issue for ITV is that they have a highly volatile income stream being so reliant on advertising. During the downturn they were in huge trouble, they're meant to be having a corporate plan to diversify where they receive their income and this, along with pay to view content on satellite, is their current solution.

I have one word for this:

LOL

Having said that, the article says that they'll only be charging for some content.

That's three words ;)

On a serious note, fair enough...And as people have said, depends what is being charged...

They could do it for films for instance ie new releases, or just in general...Or put a fee on your account so you don't get ads etc?

Meh, not much on ITV nowadays really

itv.... still trying to work out if I'll actually miss anything from their stations........ nope can't think of anything I even watch on their station lol

I can't think of anything I watch on ITV either..oh, is Police Camera Action an ITV program? Although that is utter crap, 'Be safe out there', Kiss. My. Ass.

I think that will change in the coming decades, governments will have to tighten legislation, to come in line with other crimes. Just hope it's done in a sensible way and not what has been discussed so far.

How is that even going to be possible without using some draconian policing of the internet such as in places like china ? If policing the internet was at all possible in this way surely every paedo in this country would have been locked up and had his testicles removed by now ?

You can have much stricter legislation with out being draconian.
One of the biggest thing is increasing punishment and doing police work, people need to get it out of their head that's it's ok, not illegal and justified.

Good luck ITV, most people have Sky+ or a recording box, or like me you have neither and don't watch ITV anyway.

That's hilarious. I actually got a reminding taste of television when I needed to watch that Date Dinner crap that skippy(?) was in. 6 Adverts... LOL.

No thanks ITVPlayer.

Rarely watch ITV either, thinking back I can't remember any shows in the past year I've watched except for Penn and Teller Fool Us. Can't resist a bit of magic me. Never felt the need to use the web service either.

Discounting taste in content if everyone is recording stuff then why is iPlayer one of the most requested sites in the UK?

People seem to forget that this is a geek website, that is very techy and pretty well of and knowledgable.
The rest of the population don't all have v+/sky+ or download everything in sight illegally.
Oh and that also app us to itv content, reality tv although shockingly bad is liked by the female side of the population.

Well you are right with the geeky/techy thing but a lot of people that do not have the knowledge still have v+/sky+

You don't need to know a lot about computers and electronics to know how to record something on sky+

Oh no. You mean people will have to pay to watch X factor and idiots have "talent". I can only commend them or their tax on stupid people. £100 an hour wouldn't be enough.

Because it's free and they have programs people want to watch.
