Sums up this thread tbh ;) Ure TRYING to get ya fav game working, ill race ya *puts game in dvd tray and plays within <20secs* i win :p

/Puts original Xbox game in Xbox 360. Awwww can't play it for years, if ever cause the backwards compat sucks.

PC actually wins this one, their backwards compat is exceptional.

But for more recent games, ye, any console rocks for plug n play :)

I only really play rts games on the pc now like dow and aoe3 or ones that are already out on consoles like the new tomb raider, simply because the pc version looks better.

X-com apocalypse is nearly coming up to 8 years old.

Try getting a PS1 game to work on your 360.

I bit the bullet last october. There was only really Quake 4 coming out that I wanted to play, and that was coming out on the 360, plus I was to-ing and fro-ing between my house, my mums, and my girlfriends, so I sold my PC and bought a dell laptop, and a 360. Haven't looked back really. The only games I've really played on my laptop have been Civ 4 and Morrowind which both run fine on an X300. It cool being able to walk about the house and still go online! Oh and I've been playing Cave Story too! What a great game! lol
360 is the way forward. PC gaming died for me a while ago. :( DID enjoy it whilst it lasted though!!

hmmmm I must admit as much as I want to deny it my pc barely gets used anymore. I have oblivion on it as well as on my 360 and I hate the fact the pc has horrendous slow down and jerks all about the place whereas the 360 is as smooth as a nut.

Couple that with the fact there is NOTHING coming out that even remotely interests me at the moment for pc is seriously making me consider selling it.

I'm thinking of taking the plunge and getting a 360.

As stated earlier, PC gaming is far too expensive for the result that you get. I have to spend time reinstalling DirectX, drivers, waiting over an hour for the game to install, and tweaking detail levels just so the game is playable and when the game finally loads I get bored within the first 5 mins. PC games do not seem to be as involving as console games these days.

Also the fact that pretty much each time a game is released you have to spent £800+ on hardware. And the minimum spec is usually a joke.

The thing is, you may as well burn the money you spend instead of upgrading, because it never holds it's value. Bit like buying a new car really.

If anything I've become more of a PC gamer recently. There have been more PC releases that interest me recently. Some of them were also on the 360 but I already have a good PC and no 360, plus they're games I would feel more comfortable playing on a PC. PC games are still cheaper generally.

PC games are cheaper but you have the hidden cost of upgrades in order to run them at their best. And it's swings and roundabouts anyway because console games have a higher resale value than PC games.

Plus StarCraft and Quake3 just don't work on consoles so PCs will always have a home.

IS that the same as saying "PGR3" just don't work on PC's, so consoles will always have a home? Sorry, just don't quite get what your'e trying to say here.

Really really addicted to counter strike source on the pc it's the only game i play at the moment, own a xbox 360 as well haven't really played on it for a long time and have seven games for the system. played on GRAW for about five minutes not played since, I think i'm going off games.

To fund a PC upgrade (I'm being generous and assuming a smallish £500) you would have to buy around 20-30 Xbox 360 games at full retail price (thats £50), or 30-40 Xbox 360 games at online price (thats £40) to make up the difference assuming the equivilent PC game was £25.

So if you buy ~30 games for your PC between upgrades then the Xbox 360 at current prices will be no cheaper than your PC. Buy less than that number of games and the Xbox 360 gets to be increasingly cheaper. Maintenance of the PC and downtime are not factored in. Additionally you may want to factor in the ease of trading in games for a console, as well as purchasing second hand. Without keys or the like, online games can be traded around at will on a console. You can get Xbox 360 games for about £10-£15 a pop if you trade in an existing Xbox 360 game. At that price you undercut the PC game price. Handy if you buy a game you don't like.

In time when the Xbox 360's games drop in price (a year away), the number of games required could easily double, thats something to think about. Additionally I've never upgraded a PC with a budget of £500, but thats me.

He never said consoles won't always have a home too. The point is games like Quake 3 and Starcraft play better on a PC due to the control style. Consoles have their place too, things like beat-em ups just don't work with a mouse and keyboard.

Upgrades don't bother me since I always have a decent PC. I don't mind not being able to play games in full graphics for a year or so before I upgrade again.

I don't trade games anyway, I always regret it afterwards and want to play them again so again that isn't an issue for me.

That's one of the things though isn't it. When ever anyone talks about PC gaming they always mention the same few titles... What was it this time; Quake 3 and Starcraft?

With Console gaming people do trade because there's a lot of games, people all have the same system they're all designed to be run on and there's less incentive to replay as there's always something bigger and better.

The only part of my PC that I specifically bought for gaming is the graphics card. It cost me £260 two years ago and is still going strong. I certainly don't upgrade my hardware every time a game comes out.

If I didn't intend to use my PC for gaming, I would have still have bought the same CPU, RAM, sound card, monitor, etc. Just like I'd have bought a £700 HDTV and £1400 surround sound set-up if I wasn't into console gaming too.

I don't think the price of hardware between consoles and gaming is that different, assuming that you already have a PC/TV/sound system anyway.

Effectively for my situation it's £260 for a graphics card vs. £280 for an Xbox 360. Not really much difference. :)

Aye its true, I've been getting a crazy amount of games for my Xbox 360. This is near launch, so I don't know what I'm going to do when the console gets into full swing. With the PC I usually (well... used to) play a very small number of genres, and only a small number of games in each genre. On the Xbox 360 I'm playing a much wider variety of games, and more games.

Not sure about replay though, I've replayed my Xbox 360 games more than PC games. There are more unlockable and hidden things in console games it seems. Although I've noticed PC games are getting more hidden things recently (after an almost complete absence a while back).

You can't argue with getting games cheaper though. There are many original Xbox games available for £5 or less.

Nope and i never will be, when you can find me a console that can run anything like as good as Rome Total war, then mabye, but they can't so i still much prefer my Pc than my 360, FM series futher confirms the dominance of Pc's for me.

Oh while i'm at it Medieval total war 2 looks ***** amazing. A further slap in the face for consoles :D

My 360 hasn't been played on that much at all, infact i still rate medieval total war higher than any game i've played on the 360, most are just mindless and a bit boring, Live adds a good extention which makes it less mindless but most of the games require not much thought at all, i like games which take thought and innovation to do well in. As it stands the Pc is still hugely dominant in this area, although Oblivion will be mine as soon as my exams are over as Rpg's are a rare example of games that require thought to play on consoles.

Don't get me wrong i still like my 360, but it just cant compete in the area of games that provide me te most enjoyment, good for fun gaming though.

never really got the whole upgrade argument, i've had my Pc for about 3 years now, and i have done two things to it, one was to buy a new processor when my old one died due to a power surge, and the other was to go backwards and replace my Rad 9700 Pro which was on it's last legs with a Rad 9550, still runs all the games i had, including Quake 4 and Hl2 in alright detail and RTW in good detail.

So yuo don't need to upgrade that often unless you are strangely obsessed with graphics, if it looks ok but plays superbly then i'm happy tbh, the obsession of people with Graphics is part of the reason games have got no better, people jump on a game too easily if it does't look stunning, forcing game companies in order to get mainstream sucess to plough almost everyting into graphics.

Most people on here do not judge a game on how it looks but a huge number of people do, the fact that Ea games sell at all is a testament to this, generally woefull, but look nice.
