I've only gone and done it.....

I've never had anything other than the normal 5 terrestrial channels (some people only have 4 afaik) so I've never known anything different personally.

I stopped watching a few years ago and sold my telly about 2 years ago. I haven't really found I missed it all, when I do see it at friends houses I realise why as its mostly complete rubbish. I can watch bits and pieces on the net that I really want, and I rent DVDs when I fancy seeing a film so I'm not missing anything.

I haven't really watched TV for the last five years except at someone else's house, and I don't really miss it. Sure there are some great programmes that I'd probably watch if I had a TV, but there's an awful lot of crap that I just know I'd end up watching as well.

We have a TV at my house at uni but we have never actually watch broadcasted programs. Only DVD's and games.

Don't miss TV at all tbh and I realise now just how much crap I used to watch.

I now just watch lost,24 ect over the internet or round friends houses.

I completely understand the PoV of the OP. There's complete and utter tripe on TV nowdays, I seldom watch it anymore. Movies, News and a couple of documentaries (planet earth etc...) are basically all I have time for. I'm seldom in the country anyway so miss most series and programs anyway. I'm not into soaps either so that helps.

I do like to have the TV just in case there decide to show something worthwhile. However I tend to read the newspaper or chat to friends, listen to music before even thinking of flicking the tv on.

I wonder what's healthier... chatting to friends on forums/other things... or watching tv?

I can't stand people who make some big deal about not having a TV, if you don't want to watch it, just don't turn it on...
It's not really as simple or easy as that.

I never watch TV anyway. In fact right now Ive had it on in my room for about 3 hours and I couldn't tell you a thing that has been on! Yes this has been a waste of energy but I think I just like the background noise. Instead I have been reading news reports online and factual information on a sicence website. I haven't watched anything on TV for some months (bar the odd movie), the internet is much more interactive and educational without being as brainwashing or mind numbing as the TV.

As for things you can now do yourself, may I suggest a gym membership and regular jogs around the local area :D that and the pub ;)
