Ivy Bridge CPUs Feature PCI-Express 3.0

no standard PCI at all? damn didn't think PCI was that close to being completely phased out? (Unless im reading it wrong)

No PCI on the chipset, so Intel are getting rid of it. Doesn't stop mobo manufacturers putting some kind of PCI-E to PCI bridge on it to reintroduce a PCI slot or two.

I do not use PCI anymore, and havent for years. Same as IDE. Just got a sandy bridge, and am overjoyed at the fact it doesn't have one of those damn IDE or Floppy connectors on it :D. Finally! Plus it has 10 USB on the back plate! No more hubs on this pc!
PCI-E has been the new standard for at least 5-6 years now, anyone buying PCI stuff in that time (while still having spare PCI-E ports!) should be shot tbh. Its their own fault!

I use PCI for my soundcard, equivalent PCI-E sound cards needed a floppy (a floppy!!!!) power connector because they couldn't get enough power from the PCI-E slot.

I still use ISA cards... then again i get my hands dirty quite a lot with old PCs ;)

I wouldn't mind PCI being phased out if the vast majority of PCI cards had, say, readily available PCI-e x1 alternatives, but it's just not common to see.

the only few places that use PCI now days are in older company computers for old machines. not like its imposible switch to PCIe x1 or x4 newer cards that could control this, but ofcourse someone has to make them first.
witch is how PCI stayed in bussniss for so long when it should have been gone ages ago.

that and most companys with needs of such things depends on the cheepness of PCI boards (like MSI C series vs G series)

Edit : its only recently thats PCIe is startin to become simular price point to PCI

and thank god. We need to move on. No more pci and no more ide
PCI is far from dead, there's masses of PCI cards doing a perfectly fine job. When I upgraded to a Sandy Bridge system I deliberately went for a motherboard with two PCI slots so I could keep my Xonar DS sound card (and save £50 or so for a PCI-e equivalent) and because there wasn't even a suitable PCI-e replacement for my PCI satellite TV card available at the time.

This may be a problem, as I have a Xonar DG souncard, and I don't really want to have to splash out on a new card if I am upgrading to this :(
