People need to be very careful

The 3770 is not unlocked the 3770K is

Lots of people getting caught by an apparent bargain on websites everywhere I suspect.

Ordered a 3570k and with the money saved by not going for the I7 I ordered 2 Xbox 360 wireless controllers, with £25 leftover. I now have a PC that doubles as a games console when needed.

Tuesday will be a long day waiting to finally get my new build finished.

Does the 3770K require more cooling than the 3570K? Their TDPs are listed differently? Maybe I don't understand TDP, but wouldn't that mean that the 3570 runs cooler and would therefore be a better overclocker?

The TDP is a relfection of the power and cooling provision a PC builder must provide under some (who can say) load. The slides I've seen show a few watts more on load with i7, but clock and volts always dominate.

would 16Gb of the samsung ram be a waste? purely for gaming would 8GB be ample or is it worth going the whole 16GB now?

will be buying:

Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor
Asrock Z77 Extreme4 Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
Corsair Hydro H80 High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler
Asus HD 7950 TOP 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

also would a corsair TX650W run the lot? extras would be 1x500GB HDD, 1xDVD-RW and SSD

For gaming and general desktop usage, 16Gb is a complete waste of money. Just go for 8Gb.

The TX650 will be absolutely fine for that setup as long as you are only using one 7950.

I was planning on upgrading from a [email protected] to a i5 2500K and overclocking it as high as I can on air with a Alpenfohn K2 Mount. Is there any reason why I should get the i5 3570K which I assume is the replacement?

Michael
