Ivy fail

3770k @ 4.5Ghz IS better for performance and clock speed BUT you won't be able to go past 4.8Ghz on air as after that heat levels start sky rocketing. But unless your a hardcore 5Ghz plus is a musts for your chip then that doesn't really matter anyway.

TBH this post is fail, its better than 2700k fact so its not fail also OC'ers only take up like 1% of the market.... The graphics improvement is massive for other users...

I'm still planning on getting a 3770K on its release. Nothing I've read so far suggests that it's beyond my capability to push it to 4.5Ghz on an H100 cooler.

As for Ivy being fail, I think if you take Sandybridge out of the equation, Ivy would be seen as a stonking chip.

Sandy was just so good that people expected the same jump in performance again, which usually doesn't happen on a "tick".

I've gone for the same case / cooler as you, so I'm also hoping the H100 can cut it @ 4.5.

Probably less than 1% benefit from the graphics improvement because gamers have a graphics card orders of magnitude more powerful than ib.

Hardly fail. Otherwise it would be named Prescott 2

Prescott bridge? :D

LOL you think that the gamers make up more than maybe a maximum of 7% of computer users (prob a lot less) and the graphics within the chip will give a big boost in anything graphical...

Do people really think Intel care about a few people trying to squeeze extra mhz out of their chips?

I think they do because Overclockers and Gamers are the largest proportion left of those willing to buy there higher end chips.

They just don't (care so much any more) as they have a guarantee market loyalty due to there only competition (so far) struggling to keep up.

What we all need is AMD to pull another Athlon XP and crush Intel's performance.

If AMD can't get there next 2 generation CPU's upto scratch Intel's Haswell will not be as good as it might otherwise be and cost a small fortune.

I never said anything of the sort. I implied that very few people will notice any practical benefit from the improved gpu because those who need gpu power (eg gamers) will already have it, those running ms word and browsing facebook don't care for it.

...agreed! Cos my admin pc that surfs has a dog of a gfx card in it... If I wanted to shoot something with the same PC - that would be different! But its typing this message great! :p where as my gaming PC has some more focus on the GPU ...

I just hope one day AMD overtake Intel as the king of the overclocking!

And we may get it,- http://www.extremetech.com/computin...esonant-clock-mesh-to-push-trinity-above-4ghz

That will also be implemented on Piledriver CPU cores...

Basically they will use less power, run much cooler and have a default clock of 4Ghz +

Bulldozer will already overclock to 4.5Ghz on a good air cooler, 5Ghz on a good water cooler.

This new clock mesh should give the CPU enormous overclocking potential.

Add to that the IPC performance on Trinity (a cut down PD core) is 10 - 15 - 20% higher than BD

Bulldozer is a disaster, yet i'm far more exited by the prospect of AMD's next offering than i have been over this.

It deserves some attention, and i'm willing to wait and see before going to SB. (which may not happen after all)
