Jaguars...

After have a head to head with their customer service at a senior level maybe 5 years ago, I couldn't do it again. Seen behind the curtain when most wouldn't, it was not pretty

Great looking, a little over what she wants to pay unfortunately. That and she isnt sold on full electric atm, i dont know why, her workplace offer free charging points!

Saving on fuel and servicing, and breakdown cover excess would cover the difference in costs, and you can get a 20 plate with less than 37k miles on for ~£20k - no idea on the whole electric worry, sounds like a made up issue to me these days, almost an irrational fear as opposed to what is was a few years ago. :)

IF i were to get an F Pace maybe.

As for the "not electric worry" Its because she has grand idea about driving through France and Spain in the summer so the idea of waiting an hour to refill is the issue.

Day to day? Perfect. I thought they were a good 5k over that, ill take a look. Thanks

EDIT

It took me 5 minutes on youtube to be sold on the ipace lmao. Thanks!

Waiting on holiday is generally a welcome break and pleasure, services are better for a start, far more pleasant than the chore that it’s filling up with fuel week on week out in the UK!

What is the general opinion between people who take an interest in cars with new ish Jaguars? Im talking specifically the F and E pace. My wife wants a new car, shes fallen in love with the F Pace, its within budget used (20k ish), we were all set and then a mechanic friend of mine said they are absolutely awful, the DPF goes on them and the electrics are pants.

I cant see anything online to back this up but he usually does know his stuff...so yea, do they tend to be poorly built? If so what similar cars would be recommended?

Something like this is what shes looking at but ideally 2019 and newer (aware will nip over budget)

Thank you
cant comment on those 2 however i have an ipace.

Early days yet - only had it for 7 months - but so far so good. its just hit 3 years old, 46k on the clock now and it passed its 1st mot with only tyres as advisories. Its build quality feels nice with lots of quality materials inside and it never fails to bring a smile to my face. Some people claim that its interior is looking dated now, however its more "standard car interior" is one of the things which drew me to the car. I like to think it is classic rather than dated, but then am not a fan of the modern interior in general in cars tbh

the general consensus of Jag is make sure you get one in warranty and pay to keep it in it!. i will say however the depreciation in mine is still horrific. i tried to catch the falling knife thinking losing 50% of its value in 2.5 years (£35000) would be the biggest hit, however in 7 months its lost another £9000....... that isnt the cars fault however and surely things cant go much lower.

a 2020 MY21 ipace for £26k is imo an utter steal, and i have seen a few of those at HSE spec with under 40k on the clock. charging on them is not super fast but for my use its perfect. 95% of my charging is overnight at home or work anyway, and as for the rest......... well after 200 miles motorway driving i need a wee and a coffee anyway so 40mins 20-85% charge is simply not a problem. but on that YMMV i guess.

do get a MY21 or above however, they cut down the 2 12v batteries to 1, it has an improved infotainment system and 11kw AC charging the latter not essential for me but nice to have when its available to use.

perhaps 26k is a little over your budget but remember it doesnt have a premium car tax on it so that will save you a few quid over an under 5 year old ICE jag, and it still has free car tax for another 12 months. (i may sorn mine for a week in march 2025 to get an extra 12 months free;)

Check insurance premiums 1st though. i got a good deal on mine but after all the recent press about JLR insurance combined with the stories about EV insurance i am not looking forward to my renewal.... make sure you can get a good policy before you buy.

The crazy insurance prices is mostly London related I think. Range Rovers have got uninsurable in some places due to being the most stolen thing in the world.

Why anyone would want an expensive car to drive around a city I don't know, you'd have to be crazy as it's just going to get damaged or stolen now. Get something old and cheap and be worry free. If you get scratched or bumped, don't even bother calling insurer.
