Jailbreak ATV3

The latest firmware should have a jailbreak within a week or so but I believe they are still signing 5.3 still.
PlexConnect does not require a jailbreak as nothing but an SSL certificate is installed on the ATV (unless you run the jailbreak version).

Are you referring to ATV2 only on this I assume?

He likely is.

I did a full reset and JB on my ATV2 at the weekend, using Seas0npass, which brought mine up to 5.3 untethered. Definitely gonna ditch the 2 and go Plex across the board now with a couple of ATV3, after playing with Plex on a machine doing the heavy lifting on files lifted from my Synology NAS.... works a treat and is so much more seamless and polished than InFuse.

What Synology NAS have you got? I have some 4 bay one (413j?) and it lacks horsepower. I can feel the web interface slowing down when unzipping downloads etc so I can't imagine transcoding HD videos on the fly for Plex would be very successful?

I currently have the same setup as you (ATV2 5.3 untethered) so keen to know your future plans.

DS211j as backend storage, Mac Mini doing the transcoding and day-to-day Plex duties.... tried Plex on the NAS and it won't have it, as the CPU doesn't support transcoding I believe.

The Mac Mini is a loaner I've got, which I thought I'd fiddle with and was surprised at just how good the experience is. If it has to go back anytime soon, I'll end up putting Plex on an old HP ML110 G6 and let that do the grunt work.

The NAS itself just hosts the files and acts as a Sickbeard box, so I tend to just leave it to what it's doing and ignore it unless it goes bang.

both have thier plus and minus points really depends on what you wana do.

i prefer xbmc but thats only coz its what i have been using since before it was on xbox

As long as your movies are x264 codec in an mp4 or mkv container, pretty sure plex wont transcode for an ATV and just play it (mp4) or remux it (mkv).
