James Bond

As a character he's very much not for the modern era IMO, but of course the outlook of his time is very much frowned upon now.

Don't really get good vibes about this if I'm honest; I suspect that'll be the end of Bond as a decent series.

I'd like to see it go back the Cold War 60's type stuff and I think a lot of fans would but I don't think it would sit as well with the great unwashed who they will be targeting.

oo err Guess that's it then. Couldn't bring myself around to watch the last James bond film. Was already dead.

Can still remember the hype around the Brosnan films. Which Car was he going to be driving, Who was going to sing the theme song and who was going to be the bond girls. Now its "will he have a penis"

Anyway the Connery collection should be coming to 4k Blu-ray this year. That's something to look forward to.

It's ironic that on Tuesday, they were discussing this on 'The rest is Entertainment' podcast and were praising Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli for not selling out and not letting Amazon view Bond as "content"

Wilsons in his 80's so probably just had enough. It might have been better just to kill it all off rather than sell out to Amazon, but then again, they sort of did with the last one...

I thought that Daniel Craig's Bond was too serious. If we could go back to 1995's GoldenEye and 1997's Tomorrow Never Dies, then that's a good enough compromise for me. That's where it's not too silly but also not too serious either. Mid/late-90s still have the hallmarks of Bond such as cars, gadgets, a casino scene, Bond girls, chase sequences, escape sequences and plenty of action to boot.

Some great story writing could be had with both Trump and Putin in power at the moment, similarly to the story writing during Cold War-era Bond such as Blofeld attempting to start World War III.

Yeah I listened to that as well then my heart sank today when I heard this!

They're just gonna milk the franchise into the ground like Disney have with Star Wars and Marvel. Be getting some sort of young bond tv series, Felix Leiter spin off, probably an Ana De Armas character spin off. Some clown at Amazon will start talking about a 'Bond Universe'.

*cough* rings of power, wheel of time.

Maybe they wont screw this one up? They managed to not wreck The Expanse at least.

Interesting to see the audition tapes from when Craig was cast.

Sam Worthington
Antony Starr
Henry Cavill

Cavill was decent but would have been too young at the time. Worthington and Starr were painful.

Edit: Rupert Friend as well, was decent enough.

Did having red hair have any affect on one of the books plots?
It's as key a part of her character as that of the 'White Wolf' hair colour is to Geralt.
Changing that changes the character.

Personally, Dalton was my fave.
Mine too, primarily because he was the closest match in both appearance and character to that established in the books. Just a shame about the scripts being more like Film Bond than Book Bond.

If they're smart, they can grow out the "alternatives" from the main Bond stuff rather than overwrite it. That way, they can always shelve unsuccesful ones rather than needing to close down the whole thing. Anyone remember Colin Salmon as Robinson in the Pierce Brosnan era? That was someone I wouldn't mind have expanded content with as the lead.

The key thing as said though, is to make a part compelling that people wouldn't mind following further adventures on. You didn't need to race/gender/whatever swap to do it.

I dont know if its been established that there's a set number of 00 agents.
I know 006 died in one and Janus wasn't he 008...? Anyway.... Books I've not read one, no urge.

Why can't they leave 007 alone and do a 00 "world" like how they butchered harry potter. Can set it historically in a cold war era no need to turn bond gay or have family issues or a drinking problem or any boring real life relatable crap. It'll probably just be a crap version of kingsmen, that got crap too.

I mean I personally think bond has been dead since Jason Bourne and similar type films. I stopped caring for bond pretty instantly after casino royal(2)
Maybe the world just doesn't fit with bond anymore, wasn't that the theme of one of his latest films. Declawing and emasculating him for modern audiences? Boring.
