James Bond

It was easy when the bad guy was a bunch of Soviets who look more or less similar to the protagonist.

Rather difficult to pull off when it can only realistically be China without effectively making bond of asian descent which would invite pointless derision even though it makes thematic sense. Unfortunately China is a large market they aren't willing to annoy so we're left with the same boring fascist/corporate cabal/betrayed agent storylines rehashed a million times.

Can’t the Americans keep their grubby money hands off some things.
Amazon have a habit of ruining things, they bought Lovefilm rentals, remember what happened to that.

Like Dr Who ended with Tom Baker, Bond ended with Pierce Brosnan for me. I can forgive the dodgy CGI. I wasn't keen on Daniel Craig even though it was a tad more grown up version. Who cares what Amazon does? They make mostly complete crap anyway, you don't have to watch it, I know I won't.

Erm, the people who do care about the Bond franchise and don't want it to be crap I guess, lol.

I thought that Daniel Craig's Bond was too serious. If we could go back to 1995's GoldenEye and 1997's Tomorrow Never Dies, then that's a good enough compromise for me. That's where it's not too silly but also not too serious either. Mid/late-90s still have the hallmarks of Bond such as cars, gadgets, a casino scene, Bond girls, chase sequences, escape sequences and plenty of action to boot.

Some great story writing could be had with both Trump and Putin in power at the moment, similarly to the story writing during Cold War-era Bond such as Blofeld attempting to start World War III.
I didn't care much for Daniel Craig either, I found him far too sterile compared with previous Bonds. I much prefer Pierce Brosnan, but I liked Roger Moore too - although today's generation might not like either, especially Moore. :D

I fear that the Bond as we knew and loved has long gone now. It's a shame really, as it's the one thing people all over the world knew was British.

James Bond died in 2002, ironically with a movie titled "Die another day".

Daniel Craig just nailed down the coffin after that.

Are they still going with the reality TV thing they first mentioned when they bought MGM? That in itself was the writing on the wall.

Like most things, Americans don't understand history, culture etc. and this undoubtably is the beginning of a long painful, cringey death of the franchise as we know it. I don't blame the Broccoli's, but still.

Anyone remember Colin Salmon as Robinson in the Pierce Brosnan era?
He was awesome, eh!
Him and Bill Tanner would have made for a pretty good pair to follow... Unfortunately Robinson was just a little too smart, clean-cut, nice and good at his job, so he'd turn out to be gay and I daresay Tanner would either be in the closet or turn out to have been a bad guy all along, with secret sexual deviant problems ("what makes you think this is my first time?") and the whole thing will ultimately devolve into a series about CIA characters, using Felix Leiter as a plot device.

Bond should always come in a particular flavour.

High-stakes, glam, women, cars, gadgets.

I imagine Amazon will sterylize it into being just another flavour of jack ryan or jason bourne and play it safe.
I'm just thankful it wasn't sold to the likes of Disney, or the new catchphrase could have been "The name's Jamelia... Jamelia Bond".

Amazon will take the brand, use their marketting budget to hype the absolute **** out of it. Due to that alone and there are plenty of bell end's out there who just believe everything they see, they will sell enough/get enough watches etc to repay the budget, make some quick cash, but it'll be awful, get retrospectively slagged off and that'll be the end of it.

Incoming Timothee Chalamet/Tom Holland as the next 007, Zendaya as the leading lady and Pedro Pascal as the sidekick.
Pedro is the big name to cast as lead these days.
However, he'll be too busy with other stuff, so they'll diversity-cast Anthony Mackie and then a deathly silence shall fall, forever shutting the whole matter.

Is Mackie not too busy playing dress up with his cape?

Could get the Rock for a juiced up but family friendly 007 and Jack Black as the ‘funny man’ Q.

What a line up.

Everyone knows the 1st amazon production set in the bond universe will be called Moneypenny and will show how she's the true superspy, kicking ass, taking names and protecting the world from global destruction, all whilst being just a 'secretary'..

Odds are Amazon will end up making a right mess of things like they did with their Tokien spin off.

They would be best leaving the franchise alone rather that trying to 'update' it.

Bond is a fictional character derived from a culture that doesn't really exist much anymore.

What it doesnt needs is another travesty where the franchise ends up in a perverse 'progressive' skin suit to suit contemporary mainstream media trends.
