January Transfer Rumours

and of COURSE we rely on rooney and ronaldo. the problem is we shouldnt be doing because they are inconsistent.

I wouldn't say they were inconsistent at all. Rooney has had maybe 2 bad games all season and set up more goals than anyone else in the Premiership IIRC.

Ronaldo hasn't really been inconsistent considering the year he's had, first his father dies who he's incredibly close with (He'd been sent back on news his dead was unwell, then again when his health deteriorated) and then he's accused of rape. It's not easy being a young lad in a foreign country with no family and all that going on. He will soon be back to his mesmerizing best.

We have regressed, but not as far as some might believe. We are 2nd to a team that have spunked £300m in 2.5 years, we lost in the most 1 sided FA Cup final in history last year and knocked out of the Carling cup (last year) from a fluke Duff free-kick. We went out of Europe with a whimper this year, which is unacceptable, but we are still going strong in the Carling Cup and we'll be around the Final in the F.A. Cup this season.

We drew 1-1 to Everton, lost 4-1 to Middlesbrough and 2-1 to Blackburn, all teams that we played on a very bad day (I was at 2 of them) but haven't really struggled against any of the big teams this season (although being unable to score against Arsenal last week was bad).

Consider our Injuries we have, no Heinze or Fortune (who was actually playing the only good football of his Man U career before injury), and we were without Solskjaer and Saha for 1/2 the season (and 1/2 of the last one). Recently we have had no play from Ronaldo, Smith, Scholes. The defence is being changed around too often (thank god for our 2 purchases, which despite popular opinion were needed just asmuch as a midfielder) with Silvestre proving his lack of quality by being totally outclassed by Burton.

We've had too many knocks and changes this season to provide a title charge, with only our strikeforce of Rooney and Van Nistelrooy and our keeper, Van Der Sar, being the only mainstay in the team. Consistent teamsheets provide consistent teamplay, without the former you don't get the latter and thats been our problem over the last 24 months. IIRC we had more changes to our midfield than any other team in the premiership by a HUGE margin. We are in a rebuilding process, unfortunately it's not been as easy as it has in the past due to more teams having more money.

Remember, we were incredibly close to signing: Ronaldinho, Robben and Duff amongst other players (prior to Kenyon going Chelsea then providing them with what we were offering and wage offers etc..) He then proceeded to snap up Veron, who I believe we should have kept and built the team around. He was a shining light in a very dull European team. Smith and Veron in the middle with Ronaldo and Park on the wings would have been a much more frightning proposition.

1, someone else said rooney was inconsistent. i agree, because he is. he can be amazing in some games, and not there (in europe this season) in others. hence we are not in european cup any more.

ronaldo, he is inconsistent, excuses dont matter. i expect him and rooney to be for the next couple of years, at least. thats why im saying we shouldnt rely on them. they are young, inexperience and inconsistent.

2, how much have we spunked in the last few years? rio 30million, veron 30, rooney 30, saha 12, etc. its a lot.
we lost the fa cup, we lost the other games. we were not able to score due to inconsistencies/inability to put the ball in the back of the net.

3, we got beaten by chelsea last season, we lost to milan, etc how is that good against big teams? this season... have u seen how we play? i say long ball.

4, we should have provisions in the team incase we lost a player. i mean injuries are part of the game. not having a team that can cope with a missing left back and a sub midfielder (fortune) by having enough strength in depth then who is to blame but the manager?

5, we sold kleberson, djemba, veron, phil, and more, and even loaned our liam miller (cos he's crap). who's fault is it that we have no midfielders? who didnt bring in any new good ones? id say the manager but say so if u think otherwise.

injuries are no excuse.

6, our midfield has chopped and changed for the reasons above. because we bought carp midfielders and then sold them on for a big loss without replacing them. find me a scapegoat. ill point at the manager.

when u start buying strikers and using them as your main midfielder then you know your going down hill. even the club captain left in disgust with the team. it just want good enough. again, pointing fingers here at the manager.

7. his rebuild has been laughable. the only decent signings have been van der sarr (should have bought him 5 years ago), heinze, rooney, ronaldo. and park. rest of em can rot tbh. and are doing.

8, we have been building for 6 years and not achieved anything we didnt have before... why? because our manager is incapable of adequate hiring and firings...

you know what i read today? "fergei- fletcher the best is still to come"...

Which swedish player ? I'm being dumb and can't think :S

I struggled with that one too, thinking of Kallstrom as mentioned, until someone else put a different slant on things :(

Rafa still has a sizeable pot to spend, though with 20 days to go, I'm sure he already has his eye on someone.

Simao for example, despite comments to the contrary?

thats quite scary, and positively sends shivers down my spine whenever Fletcher opens his mouth and talks about football as if he is a class midfielder which he is not.

I am not going to pick upon points made by some man utd fans here, we will always have differing opinions to what it is good and bad about us at the minute, but it all comes to one mans decisions, and his name is Alex Ferguson. He has always been hit or miss in the transfer market, buying a flop is nothing new. Some of his recent purchases in the last few yrs have been class, Heinze, Rooney, Van Der Sar, Park, Ronaldo. I've forced myself to forget the bad ones but you all know who I mean ;)

Fergusons tactics have been all over the show for the last few yrs, his reappointment of Carlos Queiroz wasn't popular and in my eyes the most obvious indication that Ferguson alone cannot manage this team the way he used to. It's no secret around Old Trafford that Queiroz basically runs the show behind closed doors. Both Giggs (in his autobiography) and Quentin Fortune have said that Queiroz is more like the manager.

Fortune said ""He relates to all the players but Carlos is more of a manager than a coach. It is like we have two managers. We've got Mike Phelan for the coaching; Carlos is like the Gaffer."

Giggs has stated in his book that Queiroz has "the responsibility to train us, prepare us for games, organise the team and decide the things we need to work on".

What exactly as manager does Ferguson do then? He's taken a backseat, making some final decisions while collecting his £4million a year < IMO the only reason he is still in management. We all know about the players revolt when Brian McClair was elected by the United players to talk to Ferguson about Queiroz's coaching and tactics. It was another hairdryer incident and Ferguson to this day has always backed his number 2. Poor man management, faultering tactics, lack of motivation, leadership and commitment, playing players out of position, bad decisions and transfers, continuing unrest behind the scenes have all contributed to bad form, bad results, poor football at times and overall quality and confidence of the team. Whose contracts did Ferguson help extend this season? Fletcher and O'Shea until 2009, two players I think most Man Utd fans would like to see leave the club, but how can you argue with Ferguson "We are delighted, it represents our vision of making sure all the young players are here for a long time." Keane was right, but only one person ever wins when there's an argument with Ferguson.

Back on topic, Vidic looks to be another Stam and I can't wait for him to play. Evra is promising, I don't know too much about him though. I knew we weren't going to be bringing in a midfielder at this stage in the season, Ferguson said weeks ago that he was after 3 players, 2 players to boost our defence, 1 player who won't be available until the summer. I just wonder who he means. Gravesen doesn't look like he'll be coming to Old Trafford unfortunately as I think he would be a good player, well better than John O'Shea (defender) and Fletcher(absolute nobody) in central midfield. Smith has done well in midfield this season, I just hope that Ferguson hasn't ruined him whenever we do get the chance to play him up front.

I hope SOMETHING will come, because so far he's shown a total lack of composure, class, talent, passing, shooting, pace, tackling, vision and hunger.
