January Transfer Rumours

I'm of the opinion that both Fergie & Wenger know exactly what they're doing with their new signings. They can't challenge Chelsea for at least 3yrs I reckon, 'til the likes of Lamps are 'past it' or lose form, so they're now investing in long term players more than just buying instant fixes, good business sense if you ask me:)

So not adding to the current first XI and possibly missing out on the CL cash is good business sense, pity you're not Abramovich's financial advisor if you ask me. ;)

no I dont think thats what he means kev,

Liverpool won the CL and they didnt spend half the money Chelsea have. the CL is a cup tie, anyone can beat anyone else on a given day, of course both teams Arsenal and Man utd want to be in it for the revenue generated, but maybe they are planning for the long term i.e they will be happy to get through the group stages, then take there chances like everyone else from then on for a year or two while they are rebuilding. This does make good long term business sense.

The flip side is spending 30million on 1 or two players, and needing an instant return on the investment which is a leeds utd risky business scenario.

On top of that is the possibility that neither club has the appeal anymore or the cashflow to prise the players the fans want not only away from the clubs they are currently at, but also to the real big money players in the game, Barcelona / Chelsea / Madrid / juventus / Milan all of which could match or beat us for the better players.

Investing in the future is the only alternative and one I think both clubs have decided to follow.

What I'm getting at, is at this rate, we'll be lucky to qualify for the CL next season and that's too much money for us to lose and buying players for the future won't help us to finish high enough to achieve that, but one or two classy signing might well be.

I still think you'll finish top 4, unfortunately;)
And you will for the next 'xx' years, as will Man.U. so European income is almost assured, as long as there is a decent line of players coming in.
Both Arsenals & Man.U's. squads will always be good enough to at least earn the European bonuses, so why not just invest long term & see what else comes:)

Cashley Cole has also done a Henry & said he will be here next season. Hope he does stay as he always give 110%.

I'm 110% sure Cashley will be in Spain next year, and it won't be on holiday. Can't say I'll shed a tear. You can't trust a single word that leaves his mouth I'm afraid.

There's also the Chelsea conundrum. Bridge being linked to Spurs, del Horno not quite living up to expectations & Gallas constantly unhappy with having to cover at LB & expressing an interest in finishing his career 'abroad'. You can't stand in the way of true love, JM & AC were made for each other;)

Looks like a fantastic talent that lad. As people have mentioned, at this precise moment Wenger should be focusing in already proven players, not school kids...

Marcio Amoroso joins Milan after agreeing on a 1-and-a-half year deal, netting him a cool £1.7M a season. I'd like to see him doing well again, if he can keep on scoring at Milan like he did with Sao Paulo then a World club squad place may be on the horizon. Drop Ronaldo have him! Fat chance of that, no pun intended :p

It's alright buying these kids, but they're not going to help us get to the CL this season, we need a midfielder who can take up the challenge now, not in a couple of years.

I don't want to start next season, in a brand spanking new super stadium, playing Tenerife Rovers in the UEFA cup. :(

And it's VIEIRA!!!!!
LOL eazy i know every one get it wrong

Young English players bought by Wenger almost invariably 'fail' at Arsenal - Wright, Jeffers, Pennant, Upson etc have all been and gone. I'm really struggling to think of any such purchases that have made the grade.

Personally I'd like to see some big strong proven players through the spine of the team. Vieri has been loaned out by Milan, he would have been a useful acquisition in the shortterm as we don't have that type of forward at our disposal. I still reckon a world class CB wouldn't go amiss. Central midfield is also looking a bit weak after the departures of Vieira, Edu and Parlour, but then Paddy is irreplaceable anyway.
