January Transfer Rumours

he was superb for az last season in holland and looked like one of the best right backs around. looked perfect for the premier league. if its a striaght swap liverpool have done good business - he is worth three of josemi. rafa is starting to show how to act in the transfer market - he knew joesmi was not good enough but kept him until an opportunity arose. maybe he is doing the same with traore! man utd could learn from them to be honest.

the liverpool squad is starting to look quite good - a lot of players released or sold on the cheap previously but hey it had to be done i guess with so many player.

what rafa is doing which is what I really admire about him is bringing in players to do a job.

He isnt always on the look out for £10million + already worldclass players but people that can come in as squad players and fill a hole as it were, or who have the potential to be really good.

i wonder if there is any money involved? If we've managed to get him for nothing, bar josemi thats a miracle :)

The thing about Josemi though is that in Spain he was regarded as one of the best right backs in the league when Liverpool bought him, was on the fringes of getting a spot in the Spain team when he joined Liverpool before he got injured.

He is regarded as a quality player in La Liga and that has been shown by teams like Saville having an interest in him since this summer and looking to pay the £2m which we basically paid for him. Raffa however did not want to sell as Finnan was the only other player in that position.

What is also interesting about this dutch guy is that he can play RM if needed which may plug a hole for rafa until the summer when the big moves take place. The way I see it is both players are not settled and so it makes perfect sense all round for a swap deal to happen.

So true, theres not many players in the liverpool squad that would be spoken of around europe in place of better players, but they are all workhorses that do the job and perform well as a team. Recent results show this :]

Great news for Liverpool regarding the Josemi deal, we get a decent RB/FB without having to spend any money and get rid of a liability. Leaves us cash to spend on maybe one or more CBs and a Winger.

Also we've just put in for a "special talents" (or similar) work permit for Gonzalez, so he could be playing sooner than expected as well.

Yea I was reading about this, a blatent loop hole in the system so hopefully he can get the permit and begin playing with us in January, will at least give him some time to settle in the country and game and we can see what he is made off next season when he can be judged.

This 20 year old Aggar kid sounds like a likely candidate for CB and the Brazilian kid Daniel Alves for RM seems to be on again who can also play at RB if needed. Good to see Rafa is considering players for many positions and its always good to have a midfield who can tackle and win back the ball as well as offering something going forward.

Johnny cant believe you aint heard of Maniche.

He played alongside Deco, Mendes and Costinha in the Porto CL winning side and was Portugal's best player in Euro 2004 behind the real Ronaldo.

He has an excellent engine, good going forward and can put a foot in, cost Torpedo £10mil too and would have probably cost more had they sold straight after the champs league win.
