January Transfer Window 20/21

I think the too much too soon analogy is quite apt for Sanches, he failed to live up to the huge hype and so everyone is saying he's crap, what was said when we signed Salah "failed at Chelsea blah blah blah" but look how that turned out, I know it's a risk but trust in Klopp as he's shown time and again he's capable of dragging every last drop out of players, he got Origi scoring in a Champions League final ffs.

I'm not sure if Gini will sign but this debate has been done to death, he want's a long contract and I don't think he'll be offered it with us so as it's his probably last chance at a huge money move (for him as a free agent) he's going to have to take it, for footballing reasons he'd be crazy to leave but for financial reasons it's a no brainer as he won't have higher stock than he has now, only thing is Ronald might not be at Barce much longer so that offer may not quite come in to him.

Not sure Klopp will actually bring anyone in as players are starting to come back from injury (read somewhere that Virgil is actually ahead of expectations but can't find it again) although I think another centre half maybe prudent, Williams has actually done well when played.

Centre back is probably more of a concern for Klopp than it was immediately after Gomez got injured.

Matip's form is consistently good when he's able to play, Fabinho's been absolutely sublime and the kids have done well too. If Klopp brings someone else in now for big money in January, they're taking one of those two spots but what happens when Gomez and VVD are back? I was adamant we needed someone in January but now I'm confused as hell now because Fabinho in defence is so calming to watch :o

As for Sanches, I would've worded my post a bit better had I known it would get turned in to the OP for the transfer window thread, but the hype around him was down to his performances at the Euro's. We've been there before and it hasn't worked well at all. He struggled at Bayern, which was understandable given the competition, but he looked like he was playing the wrong sport for Swansea he was that bad.

I know Edwards will be looking at him thinking he suits their model, but one good season out of 6 concerns me and the last player that had a blinding season for Lille and moved to the prem was Pepe :o

Unless you think Williams is going to be a long term solution then you 100% have to sign a CB in the next two transfer windows. Fabinho's done great there but he's a midfielder and you want him playing in midfield as much as possible. You cannot have 3 senior CB when 1 is Matip, who picks up niggles every couple of weeks and the other 2 have just returned from serious injuries. That's just the long term argument, you then have the short term needs too. There's not a chance that Matip is available for more than 70% of our remaining games, so even if Fabinho stays fit for the remainder of the season (which is far from likely), you're relying on kids for a big chunk of games. I can't see us not signing a CB in January but I've said things like this before and Klopp usually proves me wrong.

As for this Sanches talk, I wouldn't read too much into it. Ligue 1 clubs are in big financial trouble right now. They started the first year of a new bumper TV contract and the broadcaster didn't pay them - they've now had to do a last minute deal with another broadcaster for far less money. Lille in particular are in massive trouble and are no doubt desperately trying to shift players. I strongly suspect that these rumours are coming out of Lille in an attempt to create a market for Sanches.

I still really want us to sign Upamenco, he fits all our buying criteria but more than that, I really think that his attributes and playing style fit into the Klopp system very well.

Regarding United business, other than finishing up the Diallo transfer from the summer there have also been links with Trippier and an Ecuadroian midfielder called Caicedo.
