January Transfer Window Rumours

Well the news I've heard on the grapevine, is that Ferguson wants to purchase home born players because of a new rule UEFA could introduce. We've always had a consistent backbone of British players in the first team and whole squad in fact. It may explain why numpties like O'Shea, Fletcher and Richardson are still with us.

This is major news in my opinion. This is the first time Bayern have shown weakness over the transfer. Every other time its been "he definately wont be going anywhere" etc. January might not be an option, but i think he'll come to us eventually.

but its like - if bayern can find someone to replace him why dont we just skip a tooth and go straight for their replacement instead of buying hargreaves?

we'd get for less money etc...

Who is their replacement though? If any? Seeing as they're doing quite well without Hargreaves, they might just skip a replacement all-together.

thats what we need to find out. it wouldnt be the firts time a team would have sold us a massively over inflated price player, to sign a younger, better replacement for less cost...

if we just went for the yunger cheaper vers. in the first place aaggh!

That's my thinking, look at Lyon, two years straight they have sold probably their best central midfielder, last season it was Essien to Chelsea, a few months ago it was Diarra to Real Madrid, and just look at their form in the CL and home league. They must have an excellent youth scheme going on there.

Well....if you want to be pedantic...then no he is not British, but under UEFA rules he wouldn't be classified as foreign.

Lyon have impressed me, as you say, they keep losing their best players, yet each season they're doing as well as, and sometimes better, without those players. Excellent scouting system they must have.

If it wasnt for the fact that Real are after him, Gago would be good for United. Or even as a short-term option for 1-2 seasons, Vogel. Both would provide some much needed 'steel' to the United midfield, potentially allowing Carrick to be Scholes replacement and get forward more.
Theres nothing to say that the replacement has to be now. But knowing Fergie, he'll panic buy some dud player, or overpay, just to get a replacement now. When theres nout wrong with a temp option, like Vogel for example, until a perminatent option is found.

Not being pedantic, just how is the rule going to work? If you dont class ireland as foreign then where do you draw the line? France is just as close as Ireland so would they be foreign? then Spain is next to that and Portugal next to that......

vogel? not bad bit old but probably cheap.

carrick? getting forward? why on earth would we want that?

I think Carrick is playing much deeper than Scholes because he's been told to by Ferguson. His passing has been pretty poor either way this season.

i think its down to an inate lack of ability.

pushing him further up the pitch wont help with that. its like suggesting putting fletcher up top. there just no need for it.

Thats what im saying. He's better than any DM United have at the moment, and is cheap.
Giving United some time to find a young replacement rarther than rush buying someone.

yea i think he was mooted last year also, and the year before v. Bommel.

fergie knows best however, 18million on carrick is far better for man utd...

According to reports late tonight/early this morning we (Liverpool) have finally landed Lucas Neil for around £1m. The Times and Guardian are also saying that they don't expect the takeover to go ahead in time for the January window (which is what i expected), so Rafa will have to wait till the summer for the extra cash

I dont like buying players in january anyway, not big ones, buying relatively unknown young players is ok (ala agger), but asking a big player to step in mid season always asks for trouble, expect so much, when inevitable time is needed for them to settle. Lucas neill is a good buy though IMO.
I would much rather have the moeny in the summer, get the squad built and prepared for next season!

Liverpool seem to be coming on song now, I wouldent want to mess with that mid season, we just need to keep going as we have been the last few weeks!
