I took the limousine bus actually back to Narita, more out of laziness than anything else. The train was cheaper but the bus left just outside my hotel and direct in a convenient time, plus it was 8am and 2 suitcases on rush hour….I thought better of it, just take the bus.
I always use the Limobus. After the length of flight I don't want to have to think or screw around after getting to Japan, or having to take my luggage through stations. It's nice and easy to just come out, grab a tiket and hop on the Limobus.
Ill be going to Japan in Nov and ill be on my 10th Trip. I first started in 2004.
I dont rate the Japanese Rail pass any more. It use to be good when the exchange rate was good.. £1 = 240 YEN.
However the disadvantages are 1) you cant take ALL trains 2) you feel pressured since once activated you have to use it within your allotted days and cant really soak the culture at a good pace.
Why rush to different citys taking snap here and just like a your journalist, its not fun.
Budget airlines have opened up within the last 6 years and are a good choice if you going to Tokyo to Fukoshima. I have taken a few trips in the past from Tokyo to Okinawa and Osaka for £50.
You can also get cheap buses and coaches if your on a budget.
I mostly disagree. Personally I don't feel any pressure using a rail pass and even at a lower exchange rate given the simplicity it gives (and the option to vary things on the fly as you want). it's only about £10 more than a single trip Tokyo to Osaka and back even at the current exchange rates. i have used internal flights and it did take a lot longer to do all the stuff around airports and getting to and from them it was so much more hassle and stress than just getting the train. Yes if you are going all the way from Fukuoka to Tokyo then it may be a valid option (last time i flew was Sapporo to Osaka) but for shorter trips I find the rail pass easier.
