Japanese Grand Prix 2013, Suzuka - Race 15/19

So fed up with strategies, Webber completely cost his own strategy to get an undercut.... I think Grosjean/Lotus blinked and decided to try and get the undercut on Vettel. Vettel is simply the only car who said to himself, I have a strategy just because other cars want to ruin their strategy on stupid ideas, I don't have to.

Strategy = optimum speed over the race, reacting to other cars not on your strategy = ruining your race. Making decisions to pit based on what you think other cars will do = ruining your race.

Vettel sticking with the optimum strategy is showing how much ridiculously faster that is.

good try RG

Not really, he blinked, he thought he'd try and undercut on a car CLEARLY going for a two stopper, he was ahead, had track position and wasn't massively slow and in doing so put himself into doing 50% longer stint on these tyres which has cost him probably both positions. if he actually stopped when Webber did, or waited another 5 laps he'd be way better off than he is now.

Vettel slowed down as soon as he had a 2 second gap, well slowed a lot, he's got plenty of tyre life left. If Webber can get close Vettel can speed up, he can easily go 1-1.5 faster than Grosjean and isn't doing so, the only question is are they gifting Webber a win, will they let him go past Vettel?

TO be fair I did think he was talking about Perez in front of him as he pitted and was on new tyres at the end of the race... shades of being held up by Button, and Perez basically jumped out the way completely.

And just to show the quality of the Marussia car, or perhaps Chilton...

Pic started the race behind him, had to do a drive through immediately, they've done the same amount of actual tyre stops.

Pic is now ahead of him and pulling away.

Basically shows MWs true ability level when he can't get past a Lotus in an Red Bull with fresh tyres . . best result would be they crash into each other and Alonso picks up extra points.
