Jeff Bezos

Problem with ebay is the amount of sellers claiming to be in the UK then when you order something you then find out the seller is based in China. Gets irritating especially when you need something in a hurry, and it's usually not obvious the seller is based in China as they usually claim to be based in London.
Most of the criticisms of eBay apply to Amazon marketplace too. And the "fulfilled by Amazon" thing also doesn't guarantee you don't get fakes, because all sellers stock gets mixed together in their warehouse stocking system.

Hmm. I've never come across this. I just look at postage times?

I haven't used Ebay in years, screw that crapshoot, my Prime subscription more than pays for itself.

And I am a meticulous price-watcher. 90% of the time, Amazon is the cheapest when factoring in delivery, and usually gets to me quicker.

Hell, this month I took over pet-food shopping (wife was getting it from 3 different sites) and got it all from Amazon and knocked off 20%.

Even sold by Amazon and dispatched by amazon doesnt stop you getting fakes. I got a nokia charger which was clearly a fake as even on the packaging under the English instructions it was all in Russian!

It didnt look anything like my broken original charger.

Amazon refunded me but didnt stop selling it though.

What sites were those?! ZooPlus for me is a lot cheaper than Amazon for cat stuffs.

yea some have UK flags etc on the product image and have it set to UK, but you look and the postage time is like 14-21 days or something crazy.

it's pretty obvious but very annoying and no doubt a lot of people who aren't so tech savvy get caught out by it.

it's basically a scam or fraud in my opinion and companies like ebay and amazon should come down hard on them.

no one on the high street would get away with misleading customers

She was buying from Fetch, MeowingHeads and Canagan.

Swapped Canagan for Thrive and got a big discount on MeowingHeads.
FYI, right now the Thrive is cheaper on ZooPlus.

Quick off-topic derail...
...as I'm always looking to try to get mine off of that Felix crap - how good was the Canagan stuff? I've already tried Thrive and she won't touch it :( Along with most of the good quality brands.. (wth do they put in Felix to make it like crack cocaine..).

Also had a quick look at the MeowingHeads - 25% beef in all their flavours, even the fish ones.. we're allergic to beef :(

They have a proxy in the UK :/

Our rotation is MeowingHeads, canagan/thrive (Canagan has a really nice varied selection), and katkin/crave wet. But yeah, beef allergy will be a bit of a bummer.

Dont care about his wealth, only thing I hate is the tax issues and the working conditions of people earning bugger all. I suppose the problem is he would still be disgustingly rich if those issues didn't exist but shareholders wouldn't be happy.

Whatever you may think about the hyper rich, consider what it takes to merely succeed in this hyper competitive world, let alone thrive.

Then consider that he took his business from this:

To this:

It doesn't really take anything special that other people don't have. He's done well. So have many others. In the US it seems if you have a business you must constantly try to grow it larger and larger and make as much money as possible, be the biggest in the world. To what end? In many other places, the goal is just to live a good life, keep the business small and enjoy your time.

puts him 69th on the world wealth list by country, just 5 billion behind Slovenia. Lol

This is a fun comparison, Amazon also has higher revenues than Slovenia. A big corporation probably could take over a country it wanted to. I wonder how that would play out.

Applaws (sp?) is by far away the best cat food we’ve purchased... from mere inspection at least - it actually looks like what it says it is!

He's changed/pioneered/shaped the world of online shopping.

AMAZON is a household name globally.

One guys vision and some people still give him a hard time.

Legend in my book ( pardon the originally only selling Books pun ), ranks alongside Gates and Jobs for what he has achieved.

Before you criticise, what have you achieved on that scale ?

As good as it is, Applaws wet is only complementary, not complete. As such it should make up no more than 20% of your cat's diet.

Interesting. Because he's successful he must be admired?

Can you prove that Amazon has a net positive effect on the world?

Does Amazon need to act ethically or just be a success story to be admired? Is success without ethics to be applauded?

If he used his wealth to have you and your family unjustly imprisoned would you still rate him? :p

Yes that last sentence is very silly. But I just used it to make a point. Why should we admire someone just on the basis of success alone?

By that standard Hitler prior to 1939 was a very successful guy indeed :p Note that I'm not comparing Bezos to Hitler, by any means.

Just saying that you have to be more than just rich and commercially successful to be a "legend".

I'll answer the first one, yes i admire his success.

The rest of your questions are your opinions, which obviously differ from mine.

And then you sink to Godwins Law which ends any reason for me to comment.

The fruits of the long march of a certain degenerate ideology are now really starting to bear fruit.

This is apparently the official twitter account of the Chicago Teachers Union

Pehaps the union representing teachers should spend less time reading critical theory nonsence and actually learn something by finding out what happened to the first bunch of people who keenly advocated for the use of the guillotine in the revolution the device is best known for....
