Jelly Bean - Android 4.1

Hi all. i have just recieved the JB update to my galaxy nexus and gave it a good go and here is my thoughts:

positives:
List/scroll views are absolutely lag free. as smooth if not smoother then iphone
navigating across the home screen is smooth as butter.

Camera: zero shutter lag and cna take pics while recording a video

Picture image gallery: smooth as butter. i took like 20 random pics and scroleld and previewed them and it was butter butter smooth.
Navigating to the app drawer is also smooth.

multi tasking view is smooth too.

Well i think u all got the idea, the update is sensational. so great that it is has if the galaxy nexus is running a 6 core S4 cpu inside! its fast and smooth! smoother then my htc one x!!

YOU LOT ARE IN FOR A TREAT.

jelly bean rocks

Yep, I got it on my Nexus yesterday and it's rather impressive. Hopefully things like Project Butter will translate over to everything on top of normal Android, such as HTC Sense and speed that up as well, lord knows the HTC One X needs it.

I've had JB on my Galaxy Nexus since the I/O version came out, then went to 4.1.1 soon as the OTA popped up and 4.1.1 did show an improvement over the I/O version.

So today I got my Nexus 7 and boy does that fly. Much quicker than the GNex, not that the GNex is slow.... but you can certainly see/feel the extra power the Nexus 7 has.

project butter is jelly been though?

Yes, so? If HTC update the One X to Jelly Bean it will still have all the HTC Sense stuff on top but base-level Android improvements such as Project Butter should still have an effect.

also, will JB make a htc desire and similar old devices smooth?

It will make them smoother, but only so much. Hardware will always play a significant part.

The Nexus is flying though, if you aren't bothered about storage and the camera/video then it's a pretty great device overall.

Yeah, the hardware for the GN will be holding it back when you compare it to the nexus 7.

Can't wait to see how much of a difference JB will make on the 1S as I can't see how things could get any faster/smoother either.

Probably be like 3 months till we get it though :p :o :(

You mean ICS browser+?

If so, then it will be due to the app as it is based on well.......ICS :p

Developer needs to update it or release one based on JB.

The Nexus feels much smoother than the S3 in my opinion, there's noticeable lag when scrolling the home screens and app tray versus none on the Nexus.

There's no lag on my S3 even if you load up the screen with widgets. None at all. (Using TouchWiz launcher)

Sorry but there was for me when comparing them side by side, I even tested with Pulse news as that's the easiest way of telling. On my Galaxy Nexus with 4.0.x (ICS), the Pulse news strips have a slight jitter to them when scrolling and it's even more noticeable when you click into a story and that sites strip flies to the bottom of the screen.

This trait was apparent on Pulse news on the Galaxy SIII and my Transformer Prime, but since Jelly Bean, it's non-existent on my Nexus.

Yup ICS Browser+ does not work in JB, nor does the other one, whatever its called. Shame, because its a great browser.

Hopefully an update isnt to far away!

Actually I take half of this back. Quick ICS Browser was updated not to long ago and it now works with 'Jerry Bean' as he called it :)

Downside, it doesnt work, for me atleast, on the Nexus 7. Works fine on the Galaxy Nexus though.

I've just tested that and you are correct, Pulse is a tad smoother on the Nexus. It doesn't launch as quickly though, the only instance where the applications perform the same are the Google ones, games and most third party apps are all quite a bit quicker on the S3.

There is no lag on the home screens though, absolutely none at all (there isn't on the Nexus either).

The stock browser on the Nexus seems to be quicker than the S3 as well, but I need to test that out a bit more... very impressive if so.
