jeremy clarkson v the mail and mirror

Am I the only person who finds the rabid left trying to kill the BBC's cash cow somewhat ironic?

Can we please stop listening to professional offence takers and be allowed to make up our own minds?

I would also find it somewhat amusing if, in the hassle about contractors vs employees a few years ago, clarkson gained normal employee rights which would protect him from such spurious witch hunting.

I bet public opinion would be very much in favor of him in all honesty

And their words to the media would be "get off your high horse and start looking at real news"

So the Guardian claim that his fate is undecided pending gauging of public opinion (shudder!), as well as that of other assorted outspoken people. Does that mean they think he did mean to say it then or do they simply not care? If they believe him, how about they man up (or woman for the sake of equality) and release a statement to that effect? By all means toss in a warning for being an idiot while they are at it. If they don't believe him, public opinion should not be such an issue anyway as surely internal policies would demand action.

Public opinion:

:D

Stupid Mirror.

So what parallels can be drawn between Jeremy Clarkson and Ron Atkinson?

Both 'N' bombs where made off camera and both of them claim not to be racist?

Unfortunately we get the papers we deserve. If people stopped buying some of the awful "news"papers we have they'd have to change. It's the same with the umpteen billion "reality" (and at the moment cooking) TV programs we get. Stop watching them and they'd stop making them.

Sadly there's millions of the British public that think the Mirror and Mail amongst others are good enough to pay to read the tripe they print. You really can't blame the papers and journalists if people are stupid enough to keep paying for this stuff.

The fact Clarkson didn't actually say it and was actively trying to avoid using it in a piece of common language that includes the word?

Well on that basis, he should not have a lot to worry about. Even with the deliberately leading question suggesting established guilt, it seems pretty clear. But an outspoken minority do have a habit of getting disproportionate levels of attention these days. It might only take a few well known figures condemning him for them to cave. They should stand by him if he did not mean to say it. Perhaps sacking is fair if he did, I'm not sure. It still seems ott as it might have been no more than a joke in poor taste, with some comedians getting away with plenty in every act they do. But the need to maintain public image does have a habit of moving the goalposts somewhat.

Very few, Clarkson is and has been very successful at what he does. Atkinson on the other hand was a middling manager who was more skilled at getting backhanders and bungs than tactics or man-management.

In relation to their usage of the N word - well the context is very different. One for certain said it the other well the juries out there. And the way Atkinson used it is very very different - it was directed at a specific individual in a sentence that was directly in criticism of that person.

What a non story.

Quoting a rhyme, off camera. Just some jumped off journalist trying to get some limelight, by making someone elses life a misery.

Not by the way he is attacking the BBC he didn't have to grovel..I expect the whole thing was managed in order to make the BBC come out as best as possible...
Have you got a link for that? It'd be interesting to see what he has to say

Clarkson is now claiming he will sacked if he makes one more offensive remark. Wellr be lucky to get another half a season out of top gear if that's the case.

This culture is soffocating, its becoming sickening to be honest. No one is free to think or say anything anymore, and I'm not talking about out and out racist remarks, I mean anything which even has the hint of offense.

I want Clarkson to wind up the BBC, them to fire him and then May and Hammond to walk with him to another channel. Then start a similar show free from the nannying BBC.

Those 3 would get snapped up in an instant, probably to Sky but who cares.
