jeremy clarkson v the mail and mirror

Is the N word punishable if you just say it? If used in a racist term then fair enough, you should be punished severely.

He was practising takes, mumbled the N word and then didn't use it for the real take. Completed non issue which has been stirred up by the media and someone who has a vendetta against the guy i.e. the individual(s) who released the film. Similar set up to the Richard Keys/Andy Gray scenario.

yeah but who actually mumbles the N word, seriously? who in their right mind would go "oh ******" if they made a mistake in a line or something

I can't stand him, but I doubt he's actually a massive closet racist - just a ****.

Usual media bandwagon rubbish from the looks of it.

Other comments made on the program are much worse than this (which seem to blow over) - oddly the BBC seems to have a blind spot for some of the things said (the Mexican stuff for example).

Either way its a non-story for anyone who isnt a PC moron.

Trouble is GD is full of these people. Just sit back and watch the self righteous trickle in and subjugate us with their superior morality.

*popcorn and a full fat pepsi*

Just another example of trying to 'get stuff past the censors'. In this case, they chickened out of actually doing it.
Why doesn't the famously outspoken broadcaster say that's all it was, a rough take, a draft of the final piece?

Haven't they learnt yet, they can't do their normal tricks with Clarkson, he's to big. How many times is this, it's got to be at least two attempts every year by them, every time it fails.

It's just a shame there hunts work on other people.

Total non story as said.

Yeah...it amazes me the lengths some of the internet shut ins types go to prove a point nobody cares about.

Of course Jeremy meant slope in a racist way. You wouldn't say there's a 'slope' on the bridge...you'd say the bridge was sloping if you intended it to be know the bridge was not level. Maybe even the bridge is at a slope. But not there's a slope on the bridge while showing a race of person previously referred to as a 'slope' walking across it. Or rather stood on it..

Did you find Bernard Manning funny as well?

I like Clarkson, he's a funny bloke but the "slope joke" just wasn't funny and he can do a lot better than that.

Many years ago I found some of Bernard Manning's material funny, just as I found Jim Davidson funny....that was before Political Correctness and as he said..."its a joke, you never take a joke seriously"

I don't really find it funny now though, but then I'm older and a little more subtle in my comedy taste.

Piers Morgan, ex-editor of the Mirror and A-grade urchin, obviously absolutely detests Clarkson. I wonder if he still holds enough sway to influence this sort of campaign against someone who is basically a national treasure.

Surely anyone who is disliked by Piers Morgan should be supported by the rest of humankind ...

Black people call each other that word all the time?

What's the big deal.

Its only racist if Whitey says it.

What the hell is wrong with white people, who comes up with poems like that? Why would you teach children this? Appreciate it was a while ago but still, it's wierd.

To be fair, I didn't even know that it had a racist version.

I thought piggy (as in the animal) was the only one going, perhaps it was before my time.

Well apparently its existed in various forms for hundreds of years so at one point obviously that version was acceptable, just how things were I suppose.

Was he on Top Gear?

The slope joke was amusing... its just word play.

I can't say I'm that familiar with Bernard Manning's material - can you cite a similar example by him? From what I can gather he just makes blatantly racist jokes.

Hmmm! Clarkson? Or the papers, clarkson, or the papers

I think I will pick clarkson, he's cool, the media can shove off, its not like they create problems of their own in this world

Huh. That probably indicates my sheltered life but I didn't know that word had a racist use. Learnt something new today.

I guess that's kind of the point, it was just a bit of word play that pretty much 99% of people watching the show would have completely missed and a few people chuckle slightly at it... its about as harmful as kids TV presenters making sexual innuendos that the kids watching are completely oblivious to. Its caused outrage because the papers have then highlighted it to people in an effort to create a story - the retrospective complaints from people who didn't even watch the show can then pile in.

Pretty much sums up the whole kerfuffle in my opinion.

Just because a person uses a racist word does not actually mean they are racist. It's all about context. Top Gear is not just a motoring show, it is a comedic entertainment program too. Cars and comedy are juggled constantly and that's why we love it. Good comedy always comes close to the line of what we think of as acceptable. I feel Jeremy Clarkson often approaches that line but never crosses it, because I never see any malice in what he says. I know others are more easily offended but it's pretty clear most are not. The papers are just doing their job. Trying to sell more papers by vilifying someone. Hey, it's easier than real journalism right ?
