jeremy clarkson v the mail and mirror

I'd be more inclined to sack him for his blatant sycophancy when Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz were on the show, to be honest. I usually find the show amusing but that was just cringe worthy.

Personally, I see no difference between outrage at the use of the word tigger and Muslim outrage at depictions of Muhammad. It's just a bunch of insane zealots getting their panties in a twist over nothing.

Nothing to do with being offended, I'm simply stating that I'm not in a position to say if another has the right to be offended or not for something I've never had the misfortune to experience.

A few friends of yours?, if I could name 4 friends of mine who have been offended does that over-ride your view?.

Exactly my point. If you are not in a position to do so, why are the media? Why are the white middle class crusaders?

"oh mai gaaad look everyone, someone possibly maybe said a racist thing who is on TV, how utterly offensive it must be to black people, he must be sacked and then dieeeeeeeee. We must think of the hurt it has caused those poor black people and take action!!!!!111"

Tongue in cheek, agreed, but it is an accurate satirical example of the typical pervasive lowbrow mouth foaming journalism that is employed these days.

Hah, no, but then we would have to get them in a ring and fight it out to see who wins! :p

I have been on the receiving end of racism. It is fallacy that it is something that only non white people experience.

I agree just because I am not offended, and people I know are not offended that does not mean everyone will not be offended. But surely these people can make up their own minds on how they wish to feel and behave when subject to racism? Why do they need newspapers and white middle class folk to tell them how they should be feeling? More to the point, why does anyone?

It is so condescending. "yes, because you are black we think you are offended by the use of certain words and we are going to crusade on your behalf. Don't worry black folk, we have your corner".

Let's remember the sequence of events:

At first JC said:
"I did not use the N-word. Never use it. The Mirror has gone way too far this time."

Then:
He's begging for forgiveness for "mumbling" the offensive word, despite not wanting to.

A bit later on:
"I did everything in my power to ensure that that word did not get in the programme that was transmitted."

No ethics, no morals, no backbone. Just trying to save his pathetic little self and cling on to him overpaid pastime.

I expect the next step will be a full scale apology and some charitable donation to muddy the waters and redeem himself - anything just to keep his cushy paycheck.

I don't care whether he said it or not, it's a ridiculous thing altogether. It's just his attitude that reeks of rudeness, superficiality, vileness and immorality towards everyone with a functioning brain and even more his viewers.

EDIT: oh, and btw he has no right to criticise the tabloids since he is employed by one.

Lol, selective quoting.

At no point did he say he said it.
He said one take, it sounds to like it and asked thepriducers to make sure that cut did not go into program.

As for he works fir one, more Lolage.

So just because you work fir someone or someone similar. Means they can never go to far?

He cant claim the moral high ground when he is working for another rag himself that does the same things to people, so no.

Where's the selective quoting?

At first he denied ever using the word, then he recalled and said that he mumbled it, then he said that he regrets saying it.

It's his words and it's not selective as that's all he said on the matter really.

sorry to 'attack' your role model..

You must be really offended. I'm almost offended for you.

But I'm not.

Should I be?

I do think he's handled it all wrong. He should have told the truth from the start - it was mumbled, it was in a take that wasn't transmitted, it's already used in media and wasn't meant offensively.

By "asking for forgiveness" he's given the impression that he was out of order and managed to make a rod for his own back.

So as soon as you say the n word you're automatically a massive racist?

Not a reply to the above, just a general thought.

This is utterly ridiculous, has been blown out of all proportion by the papers as usual, and absolutely nothing will come of it...

If he gets sacked i'll eat my shoe.

reading comprehension massive fail.

I don't care if he is racist or not, just pointing out what a lowlife he is due to his behaviour in this whole case.

You should be offended by your failure to understand a simple paragraph. I would..

Apparently so. That is the last time I will sing along to my favourite hippity hoppy tunes then.

This is the bit that always confuses me really. Whilst I appreciate that a words meaning can be different depending on who says it it's surely somewhat odd to fill popular culture with commercial records containing words which, if uttered by the wrong person (again, context isn't relevant here because he didn't aim it at anyone), can cause this?

He hasn't admitted anything.

No, even in his video he did not admit to using the word. He says "I mumbled where the offensive word would normally occur", "I realised that in one of the mumbled versions, if you listen very carefully with the sound turned right up ,it did appear that I had used the word that I had tried to obscure".

All he has said is that his mumbling sounded like the word.

Oh come on, anyone who has ever done any sort of performance knows if you can't get your lines right you start to take the **** after a while.
I'm guessing someone said to him "Careful Jezzer, we'll have to go again because 'tiger' wasn't clear enough, it could be misconstrued" and being a sarcastic ******* Clarkson played into it.

The blokes not out wearing a bedsheet setting fire to a cross outside of the house belonging to the only black gentleman in chipping norton after all.

Bunch of tabloid nonsense picking on a talented writer and journalist, one who doesn't just write for miserable moaning old farts or dull middle class men and actually makes his stuff entertaining and informative to a wide audience.

It would be interesting to see an article on how many times (on average) you see/hear the n word in various forms of media. I would understand this mountain out of a molehill if he called someone it, he has handled it wrong though.
