Maybe, but I think it is unlikely.
He is the front man of one of their most popular shows (ever).
With the ambiguity of this case, I can't see the BBC taking a line that Clarkson is racist and therefore his position is untenable.
But, you never know, the rabid reporters and mindless TOWIE-esq readers might just swing it.
Yes I'm sure they will fire the star of their biggest show just because a paper once run by his nemesis (and still run by friends of his) decided to print some lies about him, especially given they own the footage that proves his innocence.
The slope joke was too much. He's pushed it about as far as he can and it's come back to bite him in the ass. Good. If it was anyone else with the casual racism, he'd be dropped like he's hot. "But it's Clarkson, it's what he does" the people cry. What they mean to say is, he's a middle class idiot who reflects ourselves and says what we wish we could say in public because we're not adverse to a spot of casual racism ourselves.
I can't see that happening. It's not like we have any concrete evidence he even said the 'n' word. If a video pops up on YouTube where you can clearly here him say it, then I'd agree with you.
I do find it interesting that people who dislike Clarkson are vilifying him for this regardless of whether they feel he was intentionally racist or not!
Another example of a tabloid blowing things up completely out of context to sell more papers imo!
This world has bigger problems than a middle-aged TV presenter mumbling an old rhyme!

I hate Clarkson but in this case it's fairly clear he wasn't saying the word to cause offence, unlike the slope statement few weeks ago.
He grew up in a time where that was the rhyme and he mumbled that bit because it was offensive.
That should have been the end of it, but all the backtracking and everything he has done has made it a lot worse!

Don't try and act like Clarkson didn't know what he meant by the slope quip. He either meant it in relation to the guy on the bridge directly or as a double entendre. Trying to say "he meant it in regards to the slope on the bridge" is insulting to everyones intelligence. Especially given the theme of the entire ****ing special.
I know, lets all get offended by a word in an un-aired clip by plastering it everywhere for everyone to get offended by it, even though he didn't explicitly say it in the first place.

Even if he did say it, I seriously hope they don't fire him. I don't think they will. It's not that big of a deal and it would signal the end of Top Gear, which very few of the watching public want.
Hopefully it'll just blow over, he's clearly not racist and people make mistakes.
As someone else has mentioned, a lot of modern rap songs (and popular media) are littered with the word. Its not going to genuinely shock anyone.

Oh please, it's not even an insult in this country, the only issues with it have been raised by foreigners. You don't see us complaining about the language in American TV shows because the token Brit uses the "W" word like it's going out of fashion, that isn't an insult in America so they use it jokingly.
Completely different context. Clarkson had no reason to utter the word.

Not really. It wasn't even aired. You could argue there's never a reason to use the word, regardless of context, if it's so horrifying.

No it's just OCUK has a proportionally high amount of petrol heads compared to the public which is why everyone here loves him.
I don't like or not like him he can be funny sometimes but is better when playing off someone else, not so funny on his own.
This is an old story, it wasn't broadcast and he shouldn't have issued an apology as he didn't publically say it. IE it was not broadcast. The mirror just showed an outtake which may have been out of context.
Oh and I grew up in the early 70s and we always said baby so wonder when it changed from ******.

We were discussing the use of the word in rap songs, and why is it unacceptable for white people to use the term, he simply said why would you want to use the word in the first place when you know it's such a dangerous word, which I completely agree with, however we could not agree why black people use the word at all given the history of the word, we ended up saying that somehow black people use it as some sort of power over white people in the fact they can use the word as they see fit (as in saying hello to someone, congratulating them on something great etc) without reprieve.
