Jerks on the elevator

Some of the replies. :(

OP you are not alone, sadly in my work place, people 'forget' their manners and attempt to enter a lift before letting people out. If you were to question politely, the rationale as to why the person was rude; they would likely bleat that it was a mistake and apologise. Outside work, people will be less compliant as there is no consequences and can say what they will.

My own reasoning, just observe the same ignorance which is prevalent when boarding public transport in rush hour. It gets carried over.

Slight digression, the Internet is the same - People hide as they are 'anonymous' and some are toxic because they can hide (rant over).

Depends who I'm confronting generally haha
In general though I think most people don't confront an obnoxious prat so most of the time being obnoxious pays off.

There's a guy on the site I work at, he's a big bloke and is out on tag. He likes to run his mouth and throw his weight around and intimidate people.

He tried it with me and, rather than backing down, I caused a commotion. Anyway he's quiet as a mouse now as it almost got him the sack.

He'd probably muller me all over the place but he's convinced that I'm a nut job who'd clonk him with a hammer so he stays out of my way.

90% of these idiots are just trying it on. Once they realise they've gotten themselves in a pickle it is them who will back down.

I dunno but I personally wouldn't have a dog without about adequate sized garden.

Thanks for making me feel bad

This story did not happen.

Proof:
1) There are no buildings that tall in Canada.
2) All Canadians are super-friendly. Apart from the geese. **** those guys.

1) The CN tower in Toronto was the tallest building in the world for decades
2) That's a fallacy. And yes the geese are jerks.

I imagine there are literally hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of perfectly happy flat-dwelling dogs in cities across the world, it isn't that outlandish a concept.

We are having gas supply work carried out in my road and there are barriers around several holes which have been dug up. Last night the local neds decided to knock the barriers over and laughed as they did it.

So just now I was taking my dog downstairs to pee. I live in a building on the 14th floor. On the 7th floor a woman and small child got on, and we made it to the main lobby where we were about to all get off when this couple in their 20s squeezed on. I said "You know you're supposed to let people off on the ground floor before you get on, right?" And I said I felt like they were being jerks. Instead of apologizing the guy calls me an a-hole.

What the hell is wrong with people?

I feel that, legally, there should be situations, such as this one, where it is legal to punch somebody in the face.

This would massively **** me off. Why would you go into a lift when people are clearly trying to get off?

I would definitely have said something - probably a very passive aggressive "thanks very much".

We have a guy at work who gets away with everything because he knows no one will risk their jobs or police being called to give him a kicking, in the good old days common sense would be used and it would be sorted out and considered that he deserved what he got, but nowadays everything has to be PC and reported police involved etc

Maybe one day he will do it to the wrong person who isn't so restrained and will get his comeuppance but hasn't happened so far in 15 years

ps. Its game theory, if you can gain advantage through bad behavior with no disadvantages then it will continue and spread - society now doesn't allow you to impose a disadvantage on them, if they risked a black eye every time they behaved badly it would soon stop in all but the most alpha guys who no one would tangle with

Want to make people nervous?

When entering a lift with only one door you will find everyone will stand facing the door. So stand in front of the door and face the people in the lift.

They'll have the creeps for the rest of the day.

There's a guy in my building who does this. It freaks me out. I feel like he's going to murder everyone in the building one day. He's like 2 meters+ and he's a very large guy, and he just gets on the elevator and locks onto me and doesn't blink. #Creeeepy

Best thing to try and remember when people are jerks, selfish or thoughtless... is the simple truth that they are just stupid and can't help themselves.

This knowledge will (hopefully) save you a lot of stress.
