Job Interview - Recruitment Consultant!

I'd do a little reading on the companies mentioned but only like basic wiki things, not that you wouldnt know the stuff but it's good to know the clients and never hurts to be over prepared.

OP, recruiting is essentially sales but instead of selling ... stuff ... you're selling people. The MD of the second largest recruitment company in the UK told me when I first met him, "Magnolia, we're sharks! We're ******* sharks!" He meant this to be a positive thing.

Britboy's advice is actually quite good although very few companies still use a PSL or preferred supplier list these days.

My proper advice would be that you sound nervous, unsure. These are not good traits in sales and will instantly be picked up on. A bit of nerves is fine; "Oh my God, I can't do this job!" is not. Selling/recruitment is about confidence, ability to talk to others, making connections, and driving bonds and trust. Backing this up is also important but I'd argue less so as long as you're pushing the right candidates.

Good luck, let us know how you get on :)

One more thing, what if he asks me what i'd like to be doing in a few years time for example?

Is an answer like - Aslong as i'm successful in what i'm doing i'd be happy, a good enough answer or to vague?

I've never had any luck with recruitment consultants, for a year I'd been trying to get a job and I've only just secured one and it was by going straight to the company.

In my many dealings with recruitment consultants you've got be a weird mix of professional and friendly and really act on the personality of the person your dealing with.

or if your a woman just ridiculously hyper and flirty. but that probably doesn't apply :P

Thanks for that Franco ... it's actually a junior recruitment consultant position, so i don't see why not ... he knows how young i am, so why would he bother giving me an interview ...

This is probably a waste of time. When myself and my mates went though the job hunting process for placements and later proper jobs we all had lots of 'interest' from recruitment firms offering interviews doh classy sounding jobs with silly earnings potential. In reality almost all are just rubbish call centre jobs where you sit on a phone cold calling etc. Whole thing is a waste of time and slightly scamlike. Everyone and his dog gets an interview and you will prob get an 'offer' as well.

There's a lot of truth here. Reed is crammed full of "opportunities" in "Sales, marketing, recruitment", etc. Every day the exact same adverts are placed on by agencies and the vast majority of them will be cold calling. It's quite funny that they usually require a graduate for some reason when they could hire just about anyone, academic qualifications aren't relevant to the job. Perhaps they're using the fact that there are ridiculous numbers of graduates unemployed and desperate for work, ready to swallow whatever comes their way.

Hardest hour of my life, god damn it. Never made a sale in my life, had three chances to do it, did alright on my third go. Says I need to learn to close a deal, I had so much to learn. Said my cv was poor. I've got to email him later why I would be beneficial to the company and what I can bring, so any tips would be appreciated. Argh.

You need other people to tell you how you would benefit the team?

How do you suppose you will sell the people you interview/meet for prospective job roles to clients looking for staff if you cannot even sell yourself?

Now that may seem harsh, but I'm only offering my thoughts.

This is not how proper interviews are done. I stand by every post I made in this thread, this is just a nother rubbish scammy sales job.

Don't even waste your time emailing.

I have to agree with fox on this one. I expect if you reply, you will get the job and then leave within 2 weeks.

Good one for giving it a go. He sounds like a bit of a nasty bloke to say to your face 'your cv is poor', and to 'send you away to effectively try again'. I think depending on how desperate I was I'd consider writing back saying 'thanks but you don't sound like the kind of person I want to work for!!!'.

My tip is don't be gutted if this one doesn't work out for you. Don't put all your eggs in one basket. 'Go home and do some more homework' is like no interview I've ever faced -- one part of my brain is thinking 'warning master robinson .. your future boss seems like an idiot' :(

Interviewing IS A TWO WAY THING.

It was a massive learning curve for me. I just need money to fuel my ambition to go to america and do music! He is the only job that has got back to me also, this is depressing. He said I seem to jump around from job to job, my past two jobs were never meant to be permanent.

Top 3% in what respect? Seems very dodgy to me. And ALL recruitment consultants I've ever dealt with were all pushy idiots. I think you've had a lucky escape.

As a matter of interest what is the pay like (and I mean salary rather than OTE) - you'll probably find that base salary wise you'll be better off (and much happier) doing something totally different.

I can't remember the exact details, as i was a bit knocked back by my **** CV! (Where can i upload it for you guys to criticize?)

Something like £20,000 or rather.

I know Recruitment is massive money (my couson is a top head hunter, and is on 6 figures, and he only has to recruit around 4-5 clients a year to get 6 figures)

I guess sales isn't for me then?! This is depressing not managing to get a job anywhere :s

However, if you're working as programmer/developer in a consulting company, never mind. Because these companies know they can easily replace you if you resign. If you like to be a programmer/developer with higher pay, work on vendor companies. Those companies who build and maintained their own products.

how about someone suggest a good increase web traffic consultant
