So, I’ve been hearing about this “campaign” for a few weeks now and today I hear on the radio Spotify are now labelling such podcasts accordingly with links to information from scientists/health professionals after pressure from people to remove Joe Rogan content from the platform after hosting people who have a different viewpoint on the vaccines and the pandemic in general, but I’m just sat here in disbelief that we are at a point in society where seemingly unless you parrot exactly what people want to hear you are not welcome need to be silenced/cancelled, why are we at this point?

I used to enjoy his show but the problem is he rarely calls any of the crazy stuff out.

That may be have been ok in his early days (and probably what made him popular) but he has such a large number of listeners now that misinformation has to be tackled properly. Talking nonsense about vaccines (and other medical treatments) does cost lives

His podcast has a huge following, so he can absolutely sway people's political stances. The problem with Joe is that he admits he's a dummy and he's not well equipped enough to call out nonsense. On certain topics, he really should be getting people on from both sides at the same time. He's done a few like that, and you can soon figure out who knows their stuff and who's a complete charlatan.

I don't think it is simply down to him hostong people with differing opinions... he himself has quite strange views and tried to push his non-vaccine nonsense on listeners. Also, didn't he take horse de-wormer?

I do get the argument about free speech etc. But if you have a platform with a lot of followers then you essentially become responsible for the information you give out. His own non-scientific / non-evidential based opinions are exactly that, his own opinions. And he's bound to be in a position to sway opinions of others.

Now if he was an immunologist, or a well respected peer in virology or other related field, and felt the vaccines were worthless, he at least has some credentials/backing to air his opinions.

He seems to have a bit of a mix of some pretty intelligent outside of the box thinking and other wacko stuff on there.

My problem is how he's been smeared by the mainstream media to be a raging antivax loon though.

They started that thing about him telling people to use 'horse paste/dewormer' to treat covid.

That was a load of crap, the drug has been prescribed for human use for years ( as well as other animals like horses) but they just focused in on the horse part to try and discredit him as a loon

A lot of the focus is going towards "why cancel someone's views blah blah" when in actual fact it's to do with other artists not wanting to be on a platform associated with those views, which is their right.

Ivermectin, 'horse' de-wormer or not, is still an anti-parasitic de-worming drug. For those on the club scene, ketamine was still known as horse tranquiliser regardless of its use in humans.
