What the actual **** is this all about then?

I'll be honest, I'm very much of the mindset that most poncy art is blatant fraud, I am unable to believe that people look at some of the crap people spend millions on and think it looks good, and no amount of explaining will ever change this mindset. In my opinion, all the Andy Warhols and all that other crap "modern art" is nothing more than a way for the wealthy to squirrel money away.

This however, is on a while different level. You can't purchase it, you can't take it home, it's literally just a musical note that goes on for over 600 years.

Yet here they are, all these mental cases have actually gone out of their way to go and listen to this "tune" change notes. They paid actual money for this, why?

Look at this woman, she's clearly lapping it up, enjoying what can only be described as "a din":

And then there's this:

The composer is arguably most famous for 4'33".
The three-movement composition from 1952 is for any combination of instruments, but instructs performers not to play them. Listeners instead hear the sound of the surrounding environment during the four minutes and 33 seconds the work lasts.

WTF? So silence then?

I'm so confused right now.

I need to go yell at some clouds or something.

the vid's not working but I can well imagine what it's like

I've been dragged to so many of these kind of things over the years...not happy about it tbh :p

all this kind of stuff is people admiring the fact that someone had the idea and has made it in to a piece/installation etc

Is there some sort of a link to something here?

I must admit that I have never been able to see the point of 4 minutes and 33 seconds of silence and I don't think that I will be around to enjoy all of his 639 year masterwork.

Now John Cale, that is a completely different matter, his version of Leonard Cohen's Halellujah

was almost as good as The Gift

;)

Art is nothing but currency for rich people.

A good bit of sculpture/picture is just that. Everthing else is just a sham to cream some profit. We have been painting since we found a wall.

It's not due to end until the year 2640! That's one for the jukebox - a firm "moneys worth" tune.

The score is made up of eight pages of music, to be played at the piano or organ - very slowly.

Considering the piece is a bit long, even for trees, it would be handy if a pianist could give us a rendition at a more human speed.

My guess is she's quietly reflecting on what the fastest cpu she can get 2nd hand for a socket 1150 motherboard is, as her i5-4670k really doesn't cut the mustard in Flight Sim 2020 even with a GTX 2060 gpu.

You can tell she really wants to play it at 4k but has realised the cpu is the bottleneck, even though this was going to be obvious from the minimum specs Microsoft released.

Deep down though, she thought it would do, as her trusty 4670k has taken on many a game over the years without really breaking into a sweat, but alas, it appears upgrade time is well and truly here.

In an amazing billion-to-one coincidence, I am in the exact same position as her, and feel a connection almost on a spiritual level - I just hope this poor woman is asking God for help and that he guides her to the OcUK hardware forum, as asking in General Discussion is a no-no.
