John Cage musical work changes chord for first time in seven years

Do you really need to post in the thread?
Do I really need to work?
Do i really need to have an existential crisis?
Yes, because it's rude and uncivilised to not reply.
No, I think so long as your expensive dishwasher doesn't break down, you're about set for retirement. Enjoy.
Yes, because without one your life has no meaning... and it builds character.

Lawdy lawd what the hell is happening :D

No, closed-minded. Dismissing something different as "rubbish" shows no willingness to engage with that subject matter in any detail or to put any effort into thinking about it.

It's absolutely fine for people to disagree as long as they justify their position. But just saying something is "rubbish" and leaving the thread is closed-minded.

You're the lady in the video aren't you?

Sorry, I wish you all the best in your adventures in not-music but I'll retain my stance that this is just a load of rubbish thanks.

thread fails to deliver, though it was about Mortal Kombat, though John Cage was the one that wore the sunglasses and did the uppercut finish move to take your head clean off ? what is all this talk about him playing chords ? Shang Tsung will be going nuts in outworld if he sees this..................

Closed minded posts or just opinions which differ to yours?

That's exactly it, the arts/media is just opinions and it's (obviously) perfectly fine to have differing opinion to someone else to whether or not you like/enjoy something.

But, a lot of people do very quickly dismiss works without fully understanding them and 4'33" is a perfect example of that. People simply see it as 'silence' but technically "music" can be absolutely any audio/sound/noise and when you realise that, as @Lysander said, 4'33" isn't actually silence rather it's a forever changing piece (no two performances are the same) of "music" that is the sound of the environment you're listening to it in.

And similarly, you have to realise that a lot of the early avant garde/contemporary/musique concrete composers/artists where fundamental in the development of instruments (synths particularly), recording gear and techniques (reel-to-reel tape looping; prepared piano etc) which have been used in music since the 40/50s.

To be honest, i'll agree in saying there is a lot of ******** in this area of music and that's from someone who has a degree in this. But the history is pretty interesting and there is some good composers/artists/compositions around, especially those working in multichannel (think 10/100s of audio channels plus 3D spaces) performances.

Each to their own i guess :)

I once composed an arty farty piece like John Cage's after having a vindaloo from the local takeway. Hmm, maybe it was farty arty.

My guess is she's quietly reflecting on what the fastest cpu she can get 2nd hand for a socket 1150 motherboard is, as her i5-4670k really doesn't cut the mustard in Flight Sim 2020 even with a GTX 2060 gpu.

You can tell she really wants to play it at 4k but has realised the cpu is the bottleneck, even though this was going to be obvious from the minimum specs Microsoft released.

Deep down though, she thought it would do, as her trusty 4670k has taken on many a game over the years without really breaking into a sweat, but alas, it appears upgrade time is well and truly here.

In an amazing billion-to-one coincidence, I am in the exact same position as her, and feel a connection almost on a spiritual level - I just hope this poor woman is asking God for help and that he guides her to the OcUK hardware forum, as asking in General Discussion is a no-no.

This is the only sane conclusion, thank you. I was worried she was enjoying this nonsense!

People like that only enjoy telling people what carp they are all about this week

Do you remember this bloke from the Fast Show? :D

hmm.......inneresting

I seem to recall a live FZ lp in which an audience member is invited to sing a piece he claims to have penned. Silence ensues and FZ replies "I take it that's a John Cage composition" :p

Closed minded....no its rubbish.

At least Banksy males a nice picture now and then this is just rubbish.
