John Terry....

John Terry and his mates syndrome, id imagine thats the biggest problem for Capello.

Ask Felipe Scolari, guys got form.

It's clear there's a mates culture in the england team, for all the robotic press confrences they've been drilled in to doing to perfection for years.. behind the scenes id imagine it's quite the opposite given david james initial blow off last weekend, and fabio's call back today.

Power to capello where we are right now, and win or lose, after we're done in africa:

Boot the guy out if he truly has tried to **** up the team for the sake of his own man mountain of self importance.

From sky sports news:

'And for the crunch clash, Terry championed the involvement of Joe Cole, who has yet to feature in South Africa.

But Capello stressed any selection decision remains with him, adding: "It is another mistake when you speak about one player because there is no respect for the players that play before.

"Always the players think individually, I have to think about the team, it's important. When you speak you have to be careful.

"I respect Joe Cole. But he is one of the 23 players I have here
."

Where I've put bold, I think that's the whole problem with england.

Terry is a grade A ****. Almost gave the game away with his lazy backpass on Friday so he isn't even that good on the pitch any more.

Getting carried away a bit here aren't you? 1 misplaced pass.

Is Gerrard not even 'that good' because of his two backpasses in the Premier league and the one vs France, by your standard that must make him horrific?

Once again, has anyone got a link of the conference? If Terry has come out and said J.Cole should be playing good on him, at least he's had the balls too. We aren't going to get anywhere playing SWP.

I don't think so. It was an amazing lack of concentration in a place where you can't make mistakes like that.

I haven't seen the Gerrard ones you are talking about but yeah he's hardly had the best season has he? Don't think anyone would disagree with that.

The one against Chelsea where he gifted us the league?

The one against Arsenal?

The one against France which allowed Henry through to win a pen after being taken out by James.

The thing is whilst you might think Terry is an arse off the pitch I believe that way too many people give him too much stick about his recent performances. He just won the double at club level! Sure he made some mistakes but footballers do make em...

Guessing there is no link to this conference :(

I thought Lampard came across very well when he spoke.

I agree with Baz, Capello seemed annoyed with Terry and had we had a set of fit defenders he might not pick him for the next game. Terry along with other England players hasn't performed.

I've said he was over rated, but I'd still have him in the England squad.

Terrys better off on the pitch to be honest then at least you know he isn't ridng your Missus.
He is the best defender in teh world in that position though & his pace is like a Cheetahs.

*Warning*
This post may be a tad bias. :D

I didn't think there was really anything wrong with what he said.

Storm in a tea cup.

+1

I thought you were all referring to a difference conference. Can't see what's so controversial about it. When asked about the tactics he said that's down to the manager and was full of compliments for Capello.

We all talking about Terry criticising Capello for not picking J. Cole?

The one where he mentions "a team meeting?" ?

He doesn't criticise Capello for not picking him. John Terry is asked if he thinks Joe Cole can transform England's fortunes. He says yes he thinks he can, explains why and finishes by saying so yeah if called upon I think Joe will do a great job. I don't see any problem with that.

Maybe some stuff has been lost in translation with Capello.

Capello did apparently give some ground on Sunday night, agreeing to tell his players his intended starting line-up in advance of his usual policy of informing them five minutes before they board the bus.

But it seems he does not quite see why it is so important.

"After 26 games this is a new problem," he said.

"Before it was okay and the players played well every time. Now they have to know the first XI. I don't understand why.

"In my career I use this system always, why change?''

This is another thing for me, that says Capello is a moron, he's only managed normal clubs before. They'll train 5 days a week, play 2 games a week and 80% of the squad will be the same/similar over a period of 3-4 years at least, at some clubs it will be similar for a decade or more. Its COMPLETELY different, and this is Capello's problem, he's not making a single concession.

Sure when you go for a one off qualifying game to play with guys you don't know, its not that different, going to play Latvia or something is hardly stress inducing or making the players nervous. This isn't qualifying and all the worst teams are not there.

Teams are nervous, players are nervous, there isn't a small game, its not a 10 game league with only 1 half decent team in there, its 1 loss and you're in huge trouble. Spain could fail to qualify as could lots of other "decent" teams.

Not even being able to understand that theres more pressure, more nerves, and most importantly players who are in a very different enviroment to normal. Just sleeping in your own bed, in your usual life is less stressful and going to play in a tournement means you're already not in normal conditions. likewise at club level first team starters know who they are, and if they are dropped for a small game they know there are 37 more to go and its not a big deal. Again completely different in this situation but Capello has given every indication he's not made a single change to accomodate for a completely different to normal situation.

Having a go at a guy you've got to play in the next game, when all he had to do was listen, LISTEN and that would probably have simply been enough to destress the entire squad and help them relax a little. Instead he makes it clear theres no questioning him and players should just do as they are told....... which is so obviously working right now.

You can see the massive difference, teams who are expected to do very well are all having issues, people are nervous, thats what happens, its normal. The teams expected to do nothing but lose have put on a show for us, why, because when everyone expects you to fail, the pressures off, and the smaller/underdog type teams are all playing relaxed football while many of the top teams are playing pressured, uncomftable clearly troubled football and can't find their feet. It doesn't take a genius to see the players had a few ideas on how to take the pressure off a little to help them perform better, Capello can't even see why letting them stew till 2 hours before the game isn't a good idea or why it would make a difference.
