I think that's pretty damn good of him. I wasn't aware of the extra info at the bottom of the article as well:

He made a secret visit to Great Ormond Street Hospital in January 2008 to donate £1million to say thank you for saving his daughter's life, just months after making a clandestine visit to the wards to tell bedtime stories to sick children on the wards dressed as Captain Sparrow.

The then eight-year-old Lily-Rose was treated there in March 2007 when her kidneys failed while he and partner Vanessa Paradis were staying in Richmond, southwest London, together with son Jack John, while Johnny filmed Sweeney Todd at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire.

That is pretty cool. Good on him. I live around the corner from St Ormond - breaks my heart to see kids in wheelchairs with tubes hanging out of them. No child deserves that.

what a complete legend!

that just sent tingles down my back love stories like that as my mates child was very ill when she was 5!

happy days!

LOL or Robert Englund as Freddy! Now that WOULD scare the kiddies.

Back on topic Depp seems like a genuine guy doing this kinda thing, even more so about the money he donated. Not many stars do that these days so massive respect too him :)

This is old news, but still highlights that some people who are rich and famous can restore some faith.

Always thought Johnny Depp was awesome!

He is definitely an awesome bloke...my fiancee who temped at Great Ormond St met him when he donated that cheque a few yrs back..said hes such a humble guy with a great family...his wife is very nice too.

One of my all time favourite actors and just happens to be a thoroughly nice guy unlike some snooty nosed actors/actresses.

Indeed. Id heard of this before, there's a few actresses and actors that have done things like this. In truth when i watch the films they star in, for some reason i allways enjoy their performances more.

I remember well my time as a child, something like what he did, it would have made my world. In fact ill tell you what did while we're on all things good. When i was about 5 i think, went to see the sooty and sweep show at the local town hall on a school outing... long and short of it, cracked my head open falling down some stairs.. Matthew Corbett paid me a visit while i was being patched up, signed my annual, and wished me all the best for the future..

Kinda thing that defines your life, good things you don't forget:)

I am pretty sure it happened yesterday and reported today, how fresh do you need it :p

Thanks thundycat for helping to cover up my poor keyboard skillz.

I used to share a flat in London with a girl whose brother was the chief prop-man on Charlie. He always said JD was a stand-up bloke. He said a lot more besides, but I'm sworn to secrecy :p

Always liked the way he comes across when people talk to him (plus he appeared in the fast show! :D) but damn, what a thing to do. You think of all the celebs we get on tv asking for cash around comic relief time etc...how many would stick their hand in their pocket to that extent.
:)
