my friend duncan is some sort of Officer Cadet with the TA's, he blind as a bat and colourblind and they still let him tear about the hills with a little shooter building little bridges and stuff.....

Are you sure he isn't called Mike?

"The TA is no game, Timmy."

only real reason to join the navy would be if your a bit well gay?

fear the dreadded "Rear Admiral"
all hands on dek! "ohhh my, whos dek??"
bunk beds where long john johnsen is on top?

not the life for me.

asian armies better, no chance of any gays being in there cuz they get stoned, shot, hanged or cut in half.

Did you want to join as a ranker or did you want to go in as an Officer?

I like this guy's way of thinking.

Nope, I don't think so. What makes you claim that??
You're right, all the pay is the same across the services. You get variations though, like in the RAF aircrew get 'flying pay' which is a retention incentive.

Following on from that earlier discussion, the RAF certainly has it's own firemen, one of the directing staff on my training course (a Flight Sergeant) is from the firemen trade.

I've only got 8 more days of civilian life left :/

British News From the Iraq Front

"Umm Qasr is a city similar to Southampton," UK defense minister Geoff Hoon said in The Commons yesterday.

"He's either never been to Southampton, or he's never been to Umm Qasr" says a British Squaddie patrolling Umm Qasr.

He added: "There's no beer, no prostitutes and people are shooting at us. It's more like Portsmouth."

Average height in the UK is 5' 8.3"... so even if it was 5' 10" max (I really don't know) all they are asking is that your not abnormally tall, rather than very short ;)

IIRC shorter people have a generally higher tolerance to G forces thus making them a better candidate for fast jets.
