JOKER 2: Folie à Deux

Doesn’t seem that a sequel is warranted… the existing film wisely leaves it open how he spirals off from there. I fear that filling in this blank will taint the hard work of the set-up.

… I also can’t really get on board with such an ominous film having Harley Quinn in the sequel.

I mean, Do you get it? Harley Quinn.

Doesn’t really belong in the same universe as the existing film IMO, which was devoid of comic book goofiness.

I fear they should have just left the first one be a standalone. I cant see that having a sequel will have any good come from it and just smacks of a cash in on the firsts success to me.

Much was made of the first films story and whether it was all in his head or that he was merely "a" Joker not THE Joker in terms of the context of the Batman universe and that all sort of worked well. Worry is that having a sequel will unravel all the good work of the first films storytelling and worldbuilding.

Thats exactly how I feel! There’s a risk that not only could it be an awful movie sequel in its own right but that it could ruin the first one!

Given that was very much a self contained story of it’s own I’m struggling to see how they can make a worthwhile sequel to it.

I loved the first one but i can see how it is too dark and gritty for many peoples taste.

Some scenes are just amazing and i still remember them a very long time after seeing the film.

Cant wait for the 2nd one, i hope they do a good job.

Dark Knight Rises, Terminator 2, Godfather 2, Lethal Weapon 2, Lethal Weapon 3, Beverly Hills Cop 2, Iron Man 2, there's loads.

As already mentioned to you by @Uncle Petey -

The odd exception doesn't disprove the rule.

So as mentioned above, there's far, far, far, far more "bad" sequels than good ones by a very large factor, and the existence of "some" good ones doesn't deny the existence of "lots" of bad ones but, again as mentioned, its all subjective.

Some of those are very debatable, but it's a subjective medium.

True, but TDK proves that it can be done in the Batman universe. So considering how good of a different take both The Batman and Joker were, IF they want to do it again, they good, just like the examples I've listed before did. Wether they will, remains to be seen, but I have faith based on the first Joker, every aspect was done well, so they only need to repeat it and not botch it.
