I always thought sadcore was stuff like Low, Red House Painters, Secret Stars etc. Or maybe that's slowcore? I have trouble keeping up.

In my mind, Cat Power and Iron & Wine sit firmly in the modern folk genre, alongside Elliot Smith and Smog. Agreed that they're both really good - although I have to confess to liking Cat Powers' covers record above anything else she's done. I think that makes me unhip :/
Yes, I think slowcore and sadcore are, or have become, interchangable. I was just browsing allmusic for inspiration and happened across Sadcore. Had heard of the term slowcore applied to the types of artist you mention, but it was the first time I had heard of sadcore being used as a genre. I agree, it's not the sort of term I'd apply to them either; modern folk is much more appropriate :). I think I'm going to start a new project for the year: to coin a new *core genre and have it used at least once in the music press - quietcore, electrocore, slightlypeevedcore... choices, choices.

The Covers Record is great. I think Moon Pix is the probably the hip Cat Power record; personally I'm a big fan of the You are Free. There are some excellent tracks on TCR. I really like the closers Salty Dog and Sea of Love (autoharp  ) and the clever cover of Satisfaction.

As Mohinder told me : "Hobocore"

Probably the best name for a genre of music since "Porn Groove"

I still need to think of some music to go in hobocore. It's really just an excuse for not having shaved, now I need to back it up with stuff :D

I think Love will tear us apart is my favourite.

I'm a big fan of this style of music so good to see it a little more common, makes it easier if stores import cd's saves my shipping costs :D
Yeh, same here I love most of Joy Divisions stuff and this style of music.

But standing aside from being applexcore or something :p how about ditching the core and try something else, although as someone said Pr0n groove is a great genre.

Deep Throat Anthology - Run, Linda Run is an awesome song :p :D
