Judge fines cyclist for using road

FYI, Drink drive laws cover cyclists aswell

Yes, I'm well aware of that, on account of not being a complete idiot*. For the record, I don't ride while drunk. If I'm riding, I'll have 1 pint and then switch to Cola since I get a discounted price for it in my local having worked there for 4 years.

Think I may have to step away from this thread soon, all this blatant stupidity is making me twitch.....How in the world did this ever come to an argument? Cyclist was inconsiderate to other road users. He was fined. End of story. Just because he's a cyclist does not give him the divine right to go around getting in the way and causing problems for other traffic.....

I used to be a cyclist but decided on the luxury and comfort of a car for longer journeys.... i never had any trouble riding close to the curb, never got worried by cars passing a little close or at speed, and as for a blow out... LOL, average bike tyre holds so little air and is so narrow, a blow out has little or no worrying affect at speed, you get a little wobbly..... then brake....? Ever had a blow out in a car... now thats something to worry about, you modern cyclist are a hazard to paying road users and pedestrians alike. You have no insurance and no regard for the law or damage you can do.

I think the judge was correct in his ruling, and hope to see more like it.

I wish car drivers were fined every time they were inconsiderate!!! you could probably abolish income tax with the money the government would make!!! :D

So do I....if I'm ever elected Supreme Ruler, anyone that cuts someone up on the road on purpose gets death by firing squad. Anyone that trundles along at 40 in a 50, then doesn't slow down when you get to a 30 zone - death by firing squad. Anyone that takes a tractor onto a motorway to sit at 25mph - death by firing squad.

***edit***

And yes, cyclists who don't use a perfectly good cycle lane and continue to get in the way on the roads - can you guess what the punishment will be guys and gals? Can you?

Yep - death by firing squad.

You can get insurance, cost like £20 a year on top of a bike insurance for theft for a £1 million cover.

3rd party damage covered? If so, great, lets make it compulsory.

yeah, it covers if the cyclist get injured or a 3rd party gets injured too.

a £750 bike cost about £5.80 a month for theft cover, with £1 million 3rd party cover it goes up to £7 a month.

Right, so how about making it compulsory if bicyclists want to ride on the road? Good idea? Bad idea?

After all, you have to have 3rd party insurance to drive on roads....why should there be a double standard?

well, i should think if you hit a cyclist on the road, i say the Driver of the vehicle would be scratch free and the cyclist would be in intensive care.

Alright, but what about a cyclist scraping his handlebars up against another car and gouging a hole in the paintwork? At present, the car owner has absolutely no comeback. Should they have to just shrug, open up their wallet and get hammered for the repair cost?

Well, personally i just got a bike 2 days ago and in the process of getting insurance. probably from here http://www.cycleguard.co.uk/

This is their Roadcare extension cover

Roadcare extension provides you with personal liability cover of £1 million for third party claims awarded against you for damage to persons or property whilst riding your insured bicycle or any bicycle. Cover will also include personal accident cover to a limit of £10,000. The area of cover will be the same as that chosen by you for your bicycle, as long as you are resident in the UK.

There's the sledgehammer approach of sueing for damages

ah yes, but cyclists and pedestrians having a tussle can result in some pretty nasty injuries. DOn't laugh, it's true!

There's also the JRS-patented method of driving 10mm off their rear wheel in 5000lbs of V8 powered car that they just clipped, seeing if I can suck them in through the inlet manifold. I have terrible trouble getting the bits of skin and hair out of the carb though.

Personally i think its about time, Cyclists are a pain, I am forever getting stuck behind them, some are awful aswell swaying everywhere and not staying over to the left. On sundays they are the worse, they cycle in big groups across the entire road for large sections of the lane ahead preventing you from overtaking them safely. Stupid cycling clubs, who sdo they think they are Tour de frodsham.

Personally, i think they should be banned off public roads without cycle lanes and should not be allowed to cycle next to each other

Cyclists have every right to ride in clubs, what right do you have to get rid of them?

  Ok how would cyclists ride from town to town? I know, increase council tax £500 a year, and spend billions on nationwide cyclelanes that are equal in inter-connectivity as roads. If you want cyclists off the roads hand over the cash to do so.

Highway code allows two cyclists to ride abreast. And for cyclists to ride on the roads.

Yes, and quite often I've seen them riding four abreast, taking up the entire lane.

I for one have no problem with cyclists riding on the road if they actually have some consideration for the people paying to be on there....
