hi guys

i'm building a NAS for a friend, a old machine without sata ports. i have a sata1 controller and he just purchased F3 1.5TB ecogreen hard drive.

boot up fine with my old sata1 80GB maxtor, but with F3, it's just hang at RAID report during the BIOS boot up.

i guess it's cos of the F3 is sata 2 or even 3?

cheers

there is jumper but no diagram anywhere. i have looked up on the samsung website but no luck

can you tell me more about this feature tool from hitachi, will it work with samsung F3 ecogreen?

thanks

Found This->This...

Samsung have other utilities for making a SATA2 HDD run @ SATA1 speeds, see Here...although it does not seem to be targeted at the F3 EcoGreen

will it work with samsung F3 ecogreen?

It does work with non Hitachi HDDs, whether or not it will work with the F3 EcoGreen I cannot say, but if the above does not work, may be worthwhile giving it a shot...

thanks for the reply

i forgot to mention that i have tried the samsung patch to force SATA300 to running at SATA150, the one you just posted. it doesnt work.

i will try the hitachi feature tool later

edit: funny enough - i took the hard drive to work, to test the oldest machine with sata150, dell gx280. it does work just fine without any jumper settings.

maybe my sata controller PCI card doesnt like the samsung hard drive?

Sounds like the Dell is able to auto negotiate the speed with the drive but the PCI card isn't.

Did you run the Samsung tweak on the machine with the PCI card or a different one?

yes, i tried F3 on my main rig with sata3 controller, hard drive works fine but tried the patch from samsung, all i did was pressed run then enter. that it. nothing happening.

hitachi feature tool detected the F3 ecogreen but said the hard drive doesnt support to change the ATA mode :(
