Jurassic World

It feels like "Deep Blue Sea vs Planet of the Apes" but with Dinosaurs with all this genetic modification and genius Dino's communicating a revolt.

Sounds much better than the way I put it.

Is Indominus Rex the actual name for it in the movie?

Yes http://uk.jurassicworldintl.com/dinosaurs/indominus-rex/

I was ridiculously excited about this but having watched the trailers and read the synopsis this actually looks to be a bit of a mess unfortunately, still will go see it at an IMAX no doubt though.

Why does it look like a mess?

Everyone has forgotten about the original park which is 20odd years ago, there is a fully functioning park now and visitor numbers are dwindling because dinosaurs are commonplace and boring now so they start abusing genetic engineering by splicing dinosaurs together to make a star attraction that will make people want to come to the park which obviously breaks out and all hell breaks loose.

It uses themes that ran through all the movies and books about mans hubris and the dangers of abusing genetic engineering for entertainment.

What is "bad" about it?

I read all these comments about how bad the film is going to be despite no one having seen the film and it's getting boring.

Plenty of films have **** trailers.

  • Horse whispering with raptors...
  • For some reason the T-rex isn't "badass" enough so lets make up a dinosaur and write a the (bad) storyline around it. Why can't they just make another dinosaur movie, instead of feeling the need to one up the previous dinosaur? You don't need to have a bigger dinosaur every movie. It reminds me of the Fast and Furious movies.
  • Watching the underwater dinosaur kill the other one and the crowd cheers with that kid saying "That was awesome." Ugh, so cheesy.
  • The whole military tactics vs monsters theme, with Pvt. Pyle saying "light it up". So overused.

  • Horse whispering with raptors... Maybe. Why not wait and see how they play it out before casting judgement?

  • Watching the underwater dinosaur kill the other one and the crowd cheers with that kid saying "That was awesome." Ugh, so cheesy. Yeah, but if you were there, you'd probably say something along the same lines, as would most of us. Hell, people are like that at Seaworld with 'plain old' Killer whales as it is.
  • The whole military tactics vs monsters theme, with Pvt. Pyle saying "light it up". So overused. Yeah, it's basically Aliens with the whole technology/firepower fails against monsters thing, but hey...

If that list is the best you can come up with, then it can't be that bad :p

Me? While it might well turn out to be arse, I think it looks like a fun (if predictable) ride based on what we've seen and I'm willing to stretch believability in certain areas given the subject material as it's just a film, not a documentary.

  • What's wrong with horse whispering raptors? They are highly intelligent animals, if humans can train Gorillas sign language why can't they teach raptors commands?
  • The new big bad is the hook for the movie, if they had 'just another park' with a T-Rex people would moan about it.
  • The crowd doesn't cheer at dinosaurs eating dinosaurs, it's a badly edited trailer. The Mosasaur eats a great white shark. I would probably think it was awesome that a creature that lived tens of millions of years ago was swimming about before my very eyes.
  • What's wrong with military tactics, how else do you take down a beast that is 15m long with tough armoured scales, I suspect that "light it up" line is the end of a heated conversation about wanting to capture the animal because it costs millions to make rather than killing it.

..but then I don't have knee jerk reactions from seeing 2 mins of edited together footage.

If there is even one scene in the new film that is as well done as the T-Rex and the jeeps in the rainstorm or the raptors in the kitchen in the first film then I will be utterly amazed.

Didn't know much about this amazingly.

Saw Chris Pratt hunting with trained velociraptors. Decided to try and pretend it doesn't exist.

  • Because raptors are completely different to gorillas. Whilst gorillas can sometimes be aggressive, you can get pretty close to them in the wild, they generally sit on their asses eating leaves. Raptors are predators, gorillas aren't.
  • Yes it is a hook, but that doesn't make it a good film.
  • Maybe I would find it "awesome", but that's not the type of thing you put in a movie. Wasn't the crowds reaction enough? Does a character really need to point out the obvious?
  • Cliche. I bet the military method doesn't work, and Pratt's horse whispering raptors save the day, even more cliche.

The writing just seems lazy; over the top antics and ludicrous plots.
