just a quick one

Maybe just drop down to 4Gb for now and start overclocking as having 3/4 slots is just asking for trouble when overclocking. Does your computer need the extra 2Gb?

nah probs doesnt need the extra, just thought as i had it i would leave it in. where do i go from here then to get the most out of the cpu?

Do you have a clock speed you want to aim for? or do you want to go for the maximum possible?

edit: what sort of cooling are you using? Stock air cooling?

standard cooling for now, but looking to change that soon as the fan is noisey.

basically i want to get the most out of what i have, safely, and as cheap as possible

Ok download:
Orthos Stress Prime 2004 - http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads...rime_2004.html

Use this to test your CPU and ram for errors.

Set your FSB to 240 and your ram to 800Mhz or as near as possible.

Test this once you get into windows. Run Orthos for 8 mins or so if you get no errors up the FSB a little more until u get errors each time running it for around 8mins. once you get errors back down a little and run Orthos for 4 hours or so if you get no errors then you are sorted :)

You may find u need to up the cpu voltage a little up it only a few times since you are running on stock cooling. Also make sure tour temps are not going over 65-70C :)

well i set the clock to 240 so its running at 3.0GHz (still only with the 3 sticks of ram) without changing any voltages, and it successfully passed intel burn test with the temp sitting on 72-74 hitting a max 75 so all in all im pretty happy. havent tried upping it as that will do for me for now, until i get a better heatsink/fan.

this is as far as i got, as when i upped it to 250 or 260 it reset it back to 200 on as it failed to post.
can you explain what each voltage is, and what the 'safe' maximum is for each:

cpu
fsb
mch
ram

Well i'm no pro at overclocking but i would say for your ram 2.0V should be safe.

up the volts only a little with the mch,

You should be able to get to 3.2Ghz with stock vcore volts tbh but if you have to increase it don't increase it too much as increasing the cpu core volts will increase your cpu temps.

Again only just a tad more volts on the FSB but only if u need it.

TBH u should only need to increase the cpu voltage to get to 3.2Ghz as that was all what my 6750 needed.

ok thanks, it was running fine at 3GHz without voltages being changed, will remove the team elite stick so its just running the kingston and see if i can get 3.1 or 3.2GHz without upping the voltages and see where it goes.

right, wel i upgraded the bios as doing some google searching some people are saying they can adjust the cpu multiplier, yet even with the upgrade, i still dont see that option. i have taken out the stick of team elite and it now runs on default ram settings at 800mhz so will assume the team elite ram is whats causing the issues with that. still cant get over the 3GHz cpu though, can get it to post on 3.1GHz but not load windows.

Is the ram running at the same FSB speeds as the cpu otherwise your ram could be running at 992Mhz which is a lot if it's running at the same timings. Loosen the ram timings and see if that helps.

not sure, but i did find this program on the mobo disc

worth letting it do its auto oc and see what happens?

Yea your ram is running at 960Mhz u need to set your ram to 667 which should be a 2:3 ratio i think. What ram settings does your bios give you?

I think it's the ram being run at too high speeds with tight timings so setting it to 667 should help i think :)

warpspeeder is now crashing the system, everything else runs fine but as soon as i go to load it, the whole thing freezes :( i will try uninstalling it and see if that solves it

wasnt the oc, was warpspeed for some reason had its settings as the cpu being run at 400MHz not the 240MHz it should be, so it didnt like it for obvious reasons. uninstalled and reinstalled so this is what i get now

nice so looks like the ram is running at the correct speeds have you tested the overclock?
