Do clamps generally cause any damage to your wheels, particularly if you have a nice new shiny set of alloys?

Just what I was thinking. How can it be criminal damage to remove them, but not criminal damage for them to be put on the car or criminal damage if you try and drive off with it attached.

I'd just ring the police and say that you think a bomb has been attached to your car.

I guess you could put your own clamp on one of the back wheels that would probaly stop them towing you BUT if it costs £150 for a clamp it would be cheaper to just pay the £125. But tbh id'e probally have more satisfaction sitting on a near by wall after putting your clamp on and laughing at them attemp to tow you. Waiting to play the criminal damage car if they do anything to your car. lol :D

"Criminal damage? Heh, I'm about to commit murder if you don't remove it!"

works every time.

Out of interest, how many times has it worked?

that sounds like a great idea! You can use the clamp more than once. If your friends get clamped they can call you to come to the rescue :)

just put a notice on your car every time you park illigelly.

"Clampers place clamps at own risk, no liability for damage to clamping equipment if placed on vehicle"

in my case when they towed me they scratched all my wheels as the method they used wasnt suited to anything with a dish on the wheel and the also put a small sctrach on the side skirt. so i have put a claim in for new wheels and side skirt! they have sent me a letter saying they will come and inspect the vehicle and i have lots of photosgraphic proof, so we shall see how it goes. :)

Yeah that's a good idea to get those scratches and dents sorted out! (Bit pricey though..)

Just let the tire pressure right down, jack the car up and the clamps usually slide off. Whip the spare on, and leave the clamp over a lamp post or something. I do this several times with my lasses car (god knows how she gets soo many!!)
I'll bear that in mind for the future - nice one :)

Ok, so deflating the tyre will allow the clamp to slide off in some cases. Do wheel clamps also block access to the wheel nuts? I'm assuming they do. I guess if they don't you could just take the wheel off, put the spare on, and take the clamp off at a more convenient location?

just another thought, what's to stop you from writing them a cheque, signing it with a dodgy signature and then reporting your chequebook stolen when you get home? ;)

just get some electronic pick locks from America, I assume, most clamps use the same sort of key/lock.

You are allowed to remove clamps, as long as you don't damage them. Or learn to pick lock.

Can you provide anymore information on these?
