Just been dumped by O2

If you're up for it, take them to court.

The ASA seem to have no interest in clamping down on lying ISP's offering 'unlimited' connections, which are actually blatantly limited.

Problem is, internet access is a relatively cheap service, and easily obtained from elsewhere, that it is almost never worth the hassle of fighting when you can just get a new ISP. Get one with obvious caps/limits, so that you know where you stand.

Ouch, I know bandwidth is expensive in the real world but actually dumping a paying customer even after you were working towards lowering your usage to an acceptable level for them is a bit harsh.

50Gb on their LLU package is probably one of the lower levels of usage, shame about the lack of upgrade on your exchange.

That's a shame. Problem is that it's much easier for ISPs to have vague FUPs, and boot people out, rather than have an honest and transparent policy. It's very dodgy indeed.

Plenty more ISPs in the sea :P

Bit harsh of them. I think that internet from mobile phone companies is generally pretty poor tbh. I'm currently using Orange as I can get it for £8 a month with a phone contract but the speeds aren't amazing.

wtf? I'm with BeThere and download a good 300-500gb/month, upload around 100GB or more...and never had any complaint.

but what I don't get is that I thought bethere/o2 were the same company? So why haven't they said anything to me when I use around 10 times more bandwidth than you?

it's a completely different service. o2 access is a product they supply when there is no LLU in your area. they have to buy bandwidth from BT and sell it to you. it's very expensive and they can't cope with customers downloading too much.

o2 LLU is unaffected by any of this.

Inverness macdhui exchange is enabled, so that's really the only option I have for an llu service. I'll do some digging and see how the service is rated.

Ah, good to hear. I hear ADSL24 are a good from a friend who is with them and they seem to do well on ispreview.co.uk, however I can't tell you first hand - I'm with BE.

It does seem strange that Samknows doesn't say that C&W is available, but the ADSL24 site says it is "Live". Probably worth calling ADSL24 up to see what the status is.

It also appears, on Samknows, that Talktalk LLU is available in your area - but I hear its not that great.

Technically you can take them to court but you're not going to, for the same reason every other person in your situation won't and they know it.

They released you from your contract.

In fact they're the only large isp who will do that instead of throttling you horribly for the remainder of your contract or demanding you buy the remainder of it to switch isp. If you had to choose between a gouging isp that will trap you or one that will let you ago, albeit the phone monkey wasn't helpful, which would you choose?

Adsl24/zen are the best of the other bt based isps. Adsl24 is particularly good if you can set downloads overnight which is nice since the beta iplayer has an overnight scheduler :)

As far as i am aware, all of ADSL24's LLU products are unlimited. The Premium service is on the bethere network. Most packages are 1 month contracts. And the new C&W LLU has free setup for a limited time only.

I've been with ADSL24 for 2 years now and not had one problem that they didnt fix asap.

I'm on the C&W list for new exchanges, I'm eagerly waiting my exchange CMTOL to be enabled!

BTW Your lucky you got outa your contract so easily, lol. Took me 3 months to get outa my AOL contract without paying :P

LOL seriously I really hate how all the companies advertise this and that is UNLIMITED where it really isn't. How is that even legal?

Maybe they should include in their small prints that they only really want customers that check their emails twice a week and use youtube twice a year.

How long before ISPs will be regulated?

I agree with the point, Unlimited should mean it or it shouldn't be advertised. I'm with BE and I take the "Unlimited" seriously - no issues so far :)

However, in this case the OP was on O2 access, which is the non-LLU version of their BB and isn't advertised as unlimited. O2 basically just pay BT wholesale for the bandwidth used as it is usually only a stop-gap before they can offer the customer the LLU service. However, in the OP's exchange the 02 LLU date seems to be far in the future.

Nice one, great to hear you are able to sort it all out.

Hopefully from the 16th onwards you will have an internet connection which outclasses you old O2 one.

Just had another email from ADSL24 - my go live date is the 16th June - excellent

Also had an email from O2 regarding one of my mobile accounts that I have requested cancelled. I am a gold customer and can have an upgrade to an HTC Desire. Told them to continue with the cancellation request.

One my iPhone contract is up, that will get cancelled as well.

Always nice to see someone biting back...

I like O2, but **** em in this case :)

I do think I'll go a bit "toys out of the pram" with regard to the 2 o2 mobile contracts I have. Don't think I'll be renewing any contracts with them, so will end up using orange for mobile.

Childish I know, but it's £60 a month I reckon I wouldn't mind saving.
Make sure you tell them why too:D
Rub their noses in it so to speak
