Just need to get this off my chest, I know, real world problems and all that.

Just popped into my local Art shop that I've used over the years to purchase cheap pieces of art and get the odd swept frame for myself and the odd gift for friends or family, my mum for example has two paintings on her wall from this shop that I bought her a few years ago.

Anyway, I pop into there today with my mum wearing smart but casual attire and I spotted a 'Joe Wall' painting in there which was interesting to me as I wanted to know how much they are worth now I was going to invest in one once and was interested to see how much or little they have appreciated, so I ask the chap behind the counter how much the Joe Wall piece is and his reply, "I'm not telling you", I'm confused, so I say "What do you mean I don't understand?" to which he reply's "Your can't afford it so why am I going to tell you", I said "That's quite rude isn't to assume that?" and he says "I'm not wasting my time with you trot on!"?

What the hell? I'm temped to go back in tomorrow and demand an apology, I may not be rich but I have an avid interest in art and collect pieces myself, I expected a collegial conversion on the artist and work not an insult. What makes me more angry though is I've spent quite a bit of money in the store over the years and I or my mum just don't feel we can enjoy the art we've purchased from there now as it's tainted it, the shop isn't even high end, most of it's pieces are sub £250 with the odd expensive piece.

Never go again, leave bad trip advisor (/similar) review and get on with your life (and laugh if they go under).

Should have called him out on it at the time tho tbh, ask him if that's how he would normally speak to a customer.

Poor people problems : /

On a serious note I agree, pointlessly rude but there's not much you can do but to walk away. One could also throw back heavier insult and walk away but that may be a tad childish.

Terrible customer service in action. I too would be very angry. My advice would be to write an email to him demanding an apology and outlining that you have been a regular customer. Writing is so much better than talking in person because you get to construct your argument in a calm, calculated fashion, without the other person butting in or walking away.

Tell him that if he doesn't reply you'll happily inform everyone you meet of his disgusting attitude.
