Just been out to look at some cars.

I looked at -

Vauxhall Corsa SXI+ (interior was nice looking and the car wasn't bad looking in general but a bit basic) Free insurance on this :)

Toyota Yaris (Felt very basic but had a nice VVTI engine)

Seat Ibiza (Mean looking thing, interior wasn't bad but a bit plastic looking)

The winner i think was this -

Fiat Grande Punto 1.3 Multijet Dynamic 16v 90bhp (looked gorgeous, it was masturbation material looks lol, interior was fantastic and they are very fast for what they are)

Anyone else got comments on these cars?

The Fiat Grande Punto is £10515 but could probably get it for about £10k.

This is my first car by the way.

I've found insurance on the Fiat for £1850 fully comp on Bell.

Anyone know of any cheaper car insurance providers i should look at too?

Thanks,

Andy

Bell are good for young drivers. I'd try adding your mother as a second driver to lower the quote

The Grande Punto is a good car - the best out of the four you've looked at IMO.

I'd consider buying used though - £4k would buy you a rather nice 1.6 16V Focus/Astra/etc that's a few years old and should be about the same amount to insure

You're spending £10k on a car and you're worried about saving a couple of hundred on insurance? I'd be far more worried about the potential depreciation on all of those cars :)

That was with my mother as a named driver :D lol

Without was over £2k.

I was going to go for the Punto as i could get a nice finance deal and see how it goes for that year etc...

They have good buy back thing on too, when you talk of depreciation. VFE i think it's called?

Andy

with regards to price my old style 1.9 HGT multijet cost me 9K over 3K off list price) as an ex sales managers car at 6 months old- looking out for something like this in terms of age as you tend to save a fair bit due to initial depreciation

I love the Grande punto and would put it on my "cars to buy" list if they made one a bit more powerful! Why don't they release a nice 150-250bhp sport one. I think the front of the car resembles an aston martin (with the big grill). v v nice i think.

Anyone know if fiat plan to make a sport model? or a fast model?!

I bet it's not very good at all - am pretty sure you'll still get screwed with depreciation on this too.

Andy dont do it mate :)

Alltho tempting im sure this is whats going to happen

1. Your going to buy this new car on finance, PCP / options or what ever u want to call it !

2. Your going to love it when you pick it up, your going to love it for the first few months

3. Your going to get your first years NCB and your going to want something more Pimp, something quicker !

4. Your going to be stuck in a contract paying for a car you think it crap !

5 You will have lost loads of money on a car you no longer love

The End, unfortantley not a happy ending ;)

Buy something for a grand, like a 1.4 ghia x fiesta or something, insure it for the year then sell it on ! It will be **** easy to sell when the years up ( the 1.4 Ghia X fiesta sell like hotcakes at the school fate ) and then you can buy a better car with the money you have saved during that year. ( or you can maybe look at buying something on finance that has better residuals/ Something that will entertain you for longer than 2 months )

Good luck mate :) Im sure at the moment your loved up with the whole new car idea but really when you think about it, its not a very good one ;)

They do a 130bhp Sporting diesel model, this is quick.

I have a Dynamic 3 door MultiJet in New Orleans Blue as my current company car, hopefully getting a Sporting next :D

I will first start by saying there is nothing wrong with the new Punto. Infact, its one of my favourite small cars. Nice cars.

However...

Dude, come on. £10k, on a Punto, at your age? Seriously, whats the point? What will it do for your first year or so of driving that £2-3k of small hatchback wont, bar shed thousands and thousands in value - thousands and thousands you can use to upgrade cars when you get more experience.

Seriously, £10k on a small car = no.

The PCPs work VERY well on Grande Punto because the projected Glasses residual is quite high.

Certainly higher than its competition.

I agree with Fox on this one - Instead why don't you buy my 1.6 Golf in September. It's very nice - Ask Fox.

Got to agree with all the advice so far, as a first car for a young driver I wouldn’t recommend spending 10k on a car. Try and pick something up for around 3k or less, you won’t be stuck with a crappy finance deal. And no matter how much you love it at first you will get bored of it and want something a bit more exciting. But by that time you wil have most likely lost a small fortune in depreciation.

I have to agree 10k on a "Punto" dont know anything about the new model maybe a very good car Fiat always seem to get car of the year somehow but 10k man DO NOT DO IT, spend 5k on a 2nd hand car.

I sell more ibiza's than anything. do yourself a favour and buy a 1.4 sport for £7688. you will never make the difference in price of a diesel back at this end of the market. At that price there is nothing else to touch it in my opinion of course.

Your entirely unbiased opinion not at all influenced by the fact you spend every working day with Ibizas and your salary depends on your ability to sell them ;)

lol yeh i suppose that has something to do with it fox!
:) even you have to admit £7688 is a damn good price for a no mileage 06 ibiza sport.

there is no way you will ever make the £2300 outlay for the diesel back.
