They can do. I know a guy who needed his changed at about 80K - but hes caned his car since he bought it at 20K.

I know another guy who changed his turbo at 130K for a new one but couldnt tell any difference.
i totally agree, but my point was the sentence " oh those cars need new turbos at xxx thousand miles " only has a basis in fiction.

Ahh apologies, I mis-read what you wrote. :) I would have thought turbos on diesel cars might be good candidates for failure sooner as they get boosted quite hard at low revs, so they dont really allow the oil to warm up before getting worked very hard. Also I doubt the average turbo diesel driver even thinks to let their turbos cool down a bit.

tbh, your post is something that's never even occurred to me before.
hmm...more thought needed on this i think.
