Just bought a wii u with mk8 this week and it's one of the best buys I've ever made ...This console does not get enough praise, everyone is far too busy complaining about graphics and sales figures, ah but can it run at 1080p 60fps etc etc .. Everyone seems to have forgotten about how the actual games play ... Can't remember the last time I had this much fun playing on a console, atm this is the best console of the 3 imo , just wish I'd of got one earlier ! Does anyone else feel the same as me or am I on my own ?
 
Not got a Wii U but had a games night on one with MK8 on Friday and it's just an all-round very decent game.

A classic example of fun over fancy graphics.

I think the graphics really suit the games though, really bright vibrant coolers and a nice art style , granted not as good looking as the top end pc games .. But they look amazing in comparison to the wii !

Agreed. It's the prettiest game I've played in a while. Stills don't do it any justice - in motion MK8 is stunning.
 
To my eyes MK8 is the best looking next-gen console game out yet... admittedly it's probably because of how gorgeous the art-style is. Also of note is the constant 60fps which just adds to it all.

MarioKart 8 is just a few battle arenas short of being the perfect game!
 
Some of the graphical effects are really nice - the texture effects here and there really add to the visuals, lots of detail too - proper details like the underside of carts, the back of bollards/signs etc - I noticed some red carpet inside a building on one of the tracks has a brush effect applied to it, looked life-like smack bank amongst a completely make-believe environment. Love the water drips when you come out of water too - it's very 3D World, love the flame/fire/smoke effects.

Lighting is bang on all round, animation is super smooth - the animators just got it so right. This console is Nintendo's first crack at HD graphics too remember.

I can see why they threw away AA for hitting 60fps - the frame rate IS more important than edge AA in this sort of game. Good call, the odd jaggie bothers me not a jot, I'm only playing on a 32inch LED TV anyway so it's hardly noticeable.

The lighting / shadows and animations are really well done too which makes all the difference. It feels very well polished.

If you sit quite close to your TV then the aliasing(lack of AA) will be apparent, but a long as you are in the mid+ recommended viewing distance range for your TV size it's barely an issue. While racing along the aliasing kinda blends itself out too.

Yup, when things get frantic online and everyone is in cluster, it's amazing the amount of carnage and details/animation that can fill up the screen... and the fact that it stays at 60fps just gives these moments the Whoa! factor.

Isn't it so awesome that given the choice of AA or 60fps Nintendo know gaming well enough to make the right call and pump the game out with 60fps?

Can always count on Nintendo to make the right choices when it comes to stuff like this, so many devs would have gone all out for AA cutting fps down to 30. I love Nintendo. :)
 
3D World was one of the best games released last year on any platform, very highly rated game. It gets better and better as you reach and go beyond the final boss. Jase doesn't like it but that's ok ;)

Best games on the system aside from MK8 are: 3D World, Pikmin 3, Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze, Zelda WW HD and NSMBU.

One of my absolute favourite games on the system is The Wonderful 101. However, it's a difficult game to play (as designed) and somewhat of an acquired taste because of this so tread carefully on that one.
 
I finish exams two weeks today. Going to run straight out and buy myself one :)

Am I right in thinking that the free game with MK8 runs until the end of July?

Edit: Also, is there any word of FZero on it? FZero GX is still the best racing game I've ever played.
