Just bought SSD but currently on Raid 0

Ok, so im currently running a Raid 0 on 2x 640GB Western Digital drives.

I am expecting a brand new SSD to be delivered in the next few hours, how do I go about getting this running alongside my current setup bearing in mind I intend on keeping the 0 array at least for a few days/weeks.

I am aware I need to set the SSD to AHCI but can this be done whilst I have other drives in RAID?

I want to use the new SSD for my Windows installation.
 
Couldn't you set up the Western Digitals in software raid from Intels Rapid Storage software while having your BIOS set to AHCI for the SSD.
 
I don't know, Ive never done out like this for anyone let alone myself.

I was hoping just to to pop the SSD in and change the boot order in the BIOS but of course its going to be in Raid Mode and not AHCI which is recommended strongly. I can have a play once its arrived, I setup the existing Raid Control using the "Cntrl I" just after the post screen.
 
I used to run 4 SSD's at one point.

I'm sure some boards allowed you to set X-Y slots as RAID, and some as AHCI.
On my current board, in BIOS, I use AHCI.
Then in Intels Rapid Storage (In Windows) thing I set up a software RAID 0 of my 2 40GB SSD's for a games drive.

That worked fine.
 
In that case I should be ok.

I remember :p.
You were interested in my CH IV set up with 1055T, alas I sold that to Combat Squirrel.
I'd have been much better off had I taken your offer however lol.


I've had the i5 set up a while, though originally I did go back AMD as my MSI board blew a VRM, but I quickly went back to Intel in style, spending over the top money lol.

And I hope the Intel Rapid Storage works for you, although I'm sure people may have some better solutions, I only suggested Intel Rapid Storage as I've used it before and it worked fine.
 
Well I've had a look in the BIOS and the moment I set AHCI I lose my Raid config which I expected so i'd need some software to re-activate it in windows if thats possible using the IRS software.

The other option is running the SSD set on Raid configuration but as a bootable drive, or will I see performce decrease...

Indeed it is.
Not running the SSD in AHCI will see a performance decrease, although I'm not sure the extent.
 
Ok, removed the power from the Raid controller and set the BIOS to AHCI, reinstalled windows to the new SSD, downloaded and installed intel rapid storage program and put the power back in to the Raid drives and it detected them with no issues.

So overall, painless, first impressions of SSD are just echoing other, WOW its fast.

Did a quick bench and getting 420MB Read, dunno if thats good when it rated upto 515MB. I'm using the correct cable.

Which SSD is it, what bench, is it in your native SATA III ports or the marvel ones (Assuming your board has any marvel ones, as I'm just guessing, I know it slowed down mine before)
 
I put it in the Grey ones (6Gbps according to Asus manual, however I do also have another 2 ports rated to 6Gbps which are blue), I used the 6Gbps cable that came with the box, to be fair ive just re-benched and got over 500mb, I was reading it incorrectly, basically the smaller files were around 420 and larger one 500+ happy days!!
