Crysis was the best shooter of last year, COD 4 was quite some way behind.
you do realise how good a game is not based on gfx....
The correct version of the above would be
Crysis was the best
technically advanced shooter of last year
On some levels it saddens me that this attitude exists, if you want to pull in the random masses it has to be pretty. As a result companies are throwing core gameplay out of the window;
Prey, Jericho, Crysis, Bioshock, R6Vegas (it was good but the gameplay on the pc version was horrible, this could be put down to being a poor port though), Vampire Rain, Haze, Army of Two, etc....
All examples of huge gfx budgets and unpolished gameplay, games that could have been amazing but fell short beacuse not enough attention was put on the core gameplay itself
Now compare them to some of the best titles;
The Witcher, Legend of Zelda, Overlord (most underated game imo, humour in it is fantastic), Resi 4, Portal, HL2, Guitar Hero 3 (this year?), Super Mario Galaxy etc..
There are a few that do both but they are the exception rather than the rule
