Just dropped a deposit on some M Power - Trackday Project Car

The m3 looks glorious Andy

Thanks Tom, think I would miss it, getting in it tonight at work, big empty wet car park, few donuts, them drive home just sliding around everywhere, not sure I could get an easier car to drift and slide around in (MX5 of course), suspect a GT4 be harder due to mid engine.

The Vanos failed on my first M3, just after a service where they took the top off to check things up top, which was part of the service around 20K miles. Started as a rumbling but was very obvious and I wouldn't bother replacing them as a precaution on a track car frankly. If they go you'll hear them going, so get them done then if they ever go.

Cheers, great thing about the M3, get in the car to go home, oooh look wet car park, OK a few donuts and then home. :D

Got the remainder of the shadow trim installed, its the small details that make the difference:

Now I am just hunting for a really nice pair of front bucket seats, I was pretty set on Recaro Pole Position ABE seats, but I am a little too tall for them, so need to find another premium lightweight seat that is ideally black cloth/suede in finish.
Also probably gonna grab another set of APEX wheels, same as my current runs to fit stickier rubber too, then just a minor service and its ready to do a few track days for next year. :)

Too tall for PP seats... How tall are you?

I need to try another test fit, I am 6FT tall, the ideal height for PP seats if 5'10 I need to retry the problem is the harness holes are not level with my shoulders and as my car ONLY has harnesses it is very important I am comfy when strapped in.

Ahh that makes sense. Im about 5'10/11 and fit perfect in my PP seat.

Do you use the harnesses?
I fit fine in the seat, though its a snug fit, definitely comfier in shorts and t-shirt, but for me the major issue is the harnesses, the slots are quite small so they pull my back really down into the seat, but I need to go for a proper test fit really and fully harness myself up.

Have you been to GSM Performance before? Would definitely recommend if you haven't checked them out. Vast selection of the popular brands on show and give you plenty of time to have a sit around.

Been looking at their site, do think I shall pay them a visit and grab a pair from them, do you know if they provide an install service?
Ideally I'd like to just remove my passenger seat, drive down, grab a pair of new seats and then just put old drivers seat in boot or somewhere in car, or worse case get them to post it me back.

My main reason for change is that I want some nicer more premium bucket seats and better mounts etc.
I was looking at the Recaro Carbon seats, but at £4000 for a pair that is probably just silly when the same seats not in carbon are about £1600

I recommend them too. Got my seat from them. And will no doubt go back to them for the passenger seat.

Shall get myself booked in, off to Far East at weekend for a week away from the madness, once I am back shall book an appointment, who knows they might have some Black Friday or XMAS discounts on.
Then just want me another set of Apex forged wheels and sticky tyres and apart from a minor service car really is done then and time to enjoy some track fun next year. :)

@Gibbo what are you doing with your old seats? I'm after some for my FD2 and if I remember right we're both a similar build (6 foot, 34" or so waist) so they may fit me fine?

They shall be sold, but I think a forum member here already has first dibs, but yours if they don't cough up. They are amazingly comfy to be honest, I did NC500 and a solid 8hr drive it was only 6hr in I felt a little lower back pain and felt it was time for a stop and walk around, but I soldiered on and did the full 8hr stint home. :D

It's not absolute height that makes a difference, it's leg/torso length that impacts seating comfort. Hence why trousers aren't made according to your height :)

That is the issue for me with the Recaro seats, the harness pass through holes on recaros are quite slim and my shoulders sit above those holes but I've only sat in the F1 Recaro, not tried the ABE or SPG yet.

Hmm...I wonder too. Might have been tracked to death!

No issue with that, tracking does not harm a car and if was the case I'd just give it a full service including new rod bearing (2k) and then a long with a suspension refresh, bushes etc so probably about a grand or more if dampers tired, just seems way cheaper than other 2010 and newer cars with DCT, EDC etc.
Problem is if I buy it, I know what will happen, two track prepared M3's on the drive, Clio would have to go in garage. :D

He has updated description, CAT D, thats why its cheap, oh well probably wise as I am no longer tempted.

Depends when it was written off though, if its a recent CAT-D it might not have been damaged that badly. Can understand why you'd want to avoid when you have options though. :)

I'd never buy a CAT D sorry, if I am buying a car I am buying a proper sorted example thats not been crashed, I'd never trust a repaired car as you never truly know the extent of the damage, if it was repaired on the cheap. I will instantly dismiss any CAT D car, unless the saving was truly epic and for me that car would need to be 11-13k to make me consider it!

I am kind of glad its a CAT D, otherwise the temptation to go and buy it was getting too strong. :D

It was more aimed at the car in this thread. The E9X is 100KG's heavier for a start and as Gibbo has shown with a few mods makes not much less power than the V8.

True still 30-40HP in it and you can always mod the V8 one too remember and I think NA wise modded they push 440-460HP, which would give it a clear 60-80HP over an E46, yes they are heavier but again there is more weight to be saved on E92 so when both are stripped to a level like my E46 the weight difference is like 60-80kg I believe.

But the car I listed was a goer until I found it to be CAT D and that does not interest me.
But right now E92 are good buys, can't see them de-valuing much more as the engine is for me in another league compared to the new engines in both delivery and sound, plus character too. The new M cars sounds pathetic, like a wet far, such a big let down they really are.

@Gibbo here is the pic as promised -

As I said earlier. I'm about 5'10/11 and it all feels pretty good.

Thanks for this, when I get some time shall get an appointment sorted to try out some seats, just hard to find any time free due to work and jet setting and all that boring but fun stuff. :D

Finally had the ABS kill switch installed:

Then once warmed up proceeded to do some Christmas donuts, not that it needs to be Christmas for me to do donuts, if its wet I am game:

Was also all serviced yesterday, so ready for some track days, when I throw the other set of wheels on I shall give it a good clean and post up some new pictures. :)
