.......when buying a lottery ticket:confused:

I had grabbed some change and went into Tesco Express to buy some milk and a lotto ticket. When I got to the counter I asked for a lucky dip. The lady behind the counter asked me what age I was. I replied "26".
At this point I had handed her the money and was waiting for the ticket to print. About 15 seconds passed before I realised she was just staring at me. So I asked what she was waiting for,she replied that she needed to see some ID before she could sell me a ticket.

I thought she was joking. As I had no ID on me she said she couldn't sell me the ticket, confirming this with a colleague. I then had to ask her to wait for me to go to my car and get my licence
So, holding up the queue I ran out, got the licence and brought it in for her to see.

The whole if you look under 21 we have to ID you thing I get, just about, but this was just plain stupid. Are people becoming so brainwashed that they are not allowed to use any common sense? I don't look 26 granted, but I look over 20 without doubt.

And isn't it 16 or over for a lottery ticket? Lol do you look 15? Some people just love to power of asking people for ID...

easy for you to say that because you know your older but people have to judge you by looks, first impression, dress sense, personality, eye contact and some other things. I have asked for ID off someone that was 28 before and that was because I couldnt put an age on them, those are the ones you have to be careful on because we dont know who is a mystery shopper and if we get caught, the cashier gets fined £1000, the licencee £1000 and then the store itself £1000.

but saying that - lottery tickets are 16 and your 10 years older which does kinda take the mick - I look for signs of puberty at that age - I would be insulted to be asked.

how come your license was in your car?

Firstly because it is when I'm driving that requests to see my licence occur.
Solution: always carry ID.

That was sinple, no?

Secondly, not when I'm buying milk, no. Beer or the pub, airport as well, but down the shops isn't usually necessary. Plus, I can't even remember the last time I was asked for ID at a bar, never mind for a lotto ticket,

or keep it in your wallet so its on you at all times wherever you are anyway?

you can put paper and change in your wallet though

The fact is, if my licence wasn't in the car and in my wallet, I would have been shafted as my wallet was at home, hence me using some change from the car to pay for the milk and ticket :p

I have enough ID in my wallet normally to deal with these type of things, but just so happend that this time I had no wallet and my licence was luckily in the car. The fact I was pointing out was that I was ID'd to get a lotto ticket when I am a DECADE over the required age and last time I looked, do not resemble a 15 year old.

Pic tbh.

And it's better than being told you look a lot older than you are, at 19 people said I looked mid 20's... which sucks; Nobody wants to look 40 before they are 40. ;)

Anything that has an age limit or requirement should require ID checks regardless of what the item is or if the person looks 10 or 100.
