Came up to a traffic light that turned red and I hit the breaks a second too late and skidded about 10inches over the line and the damn camera flashed me. Does that count as jumping a red light?

Hmm, I wouldn't have thought so as the camera would be set to assume you would be continuing forward rather than stopping

Fingers crossed you should be fine as you did stop after all.

It will be obvious on the photograph that you were stopping as your brake lights will be illuminated, also your speed will be fairly low.

he still crossed the line in that case and will get the £60 fine and 3 points iirc

I Dont think so, it's quite obvious he tried to stop (and did just overshot the line), he could argue that the road surface was greasy at the time.

thats an excuse for poor awareness of the road.

when driving up to a traffic light, you need to be aware that the light can change. if you first see the lights and they are green, then its best to assume that by the time you get there they will be red or atleast changing to red.

driving at a speed that will take you 10' while breaking due to a greasy road, would imply that you are driving to fast for the conditions as well.

You might get away with it, are they not normally pointed further up the road ie. on a crossroads, to catch the people that fly through the lights at speed?

With a bit of luck you'll be out of the picture, atleast you tried to stop.

Gatso before a traffic light?? They normally have traffic light specific camera's before them but I haven't seen a yellow one.
As a not-so-proud owner of a TS10, I'd be expecting a NIP in the post; I don't think leniency is their strong point.

Don't all 4 wheels have to cross the line, thus making it clear that you commited yourself to crossing the junction?

Anyhows, 10" over the line and the camera probably didn't get you. From all the ones I have seen you will need to be at least a cars length across the line (hence the 4 wheels thing) in order for it to get you and your plate.

Also the camera will flash you twice, thus to make sure you actually completely crossed over the line.

Lookie here http://www.stvincent.ac.uk/Resources/Physics/Speed/road/redlt.html

I could be completely wrong though.

I'd say so, but, I'd doubt the camera has "got you"
either way your lucky you did'nt overshoot the junction / lights into the path of something like a 44tonner........

Skids are bad, buy a car with ABS & slow down a tad - you may not be so lucky next time. ;)

a lot of them are yellow round these parts.

If you crossed it like this, expect an envelope soon (taking into account the xmas and new years delays).

Ive braked just in time for the line on a set of cameras and a big cloud of smoke drifted past me as I stopped :D I realised later the rear brake guide pin had rusted up and it throws everything off I guess

If you crossed the line I'd say they'll do you like the robots they are, any argument or attempt at justice will be taken as insolence :(

Try and take a positive from it and check your brakes, any reason why you had trouble stopping ?

Im doing lessons and im told to examine the light before continuing thrugh them, once they turn orange that means i have to take action and come to a holt. Maybe they will actually see it that way and get you for it...

I doubt they will even look at the picture, it is all automated I wouldv'e thought. Just contest it if it does arrive. My G/F got done by one of these and they are only put up at junctions where accidents are prime to encourage people to actually stop at red lights, so I would bet on it having film/actually being a live camera.

Nope, I wasn't even doing 30 (40 zone) and it just suddenly changed over when I was quite close. Probably could've made it but don't like rushing at an orange light.
